Since its inception in 2007, the Assassin’s Creed series has traveled the world, with previous installments taking players to the American Revolution, Ancient Greece, and Renaissance Italy. The series has seen a significant shift over the years, transitioning from sequels that fulfilled previous entries’ promises to completely new approaches to character development.
Assassin’s Creed successfully fuses historical narrative and action-adventure to produce some pulpy extravaganzas based on a novel notion. Despite the franchise’s ups and downs, it has been pushing the envelope and immersing players in more compelling and immersive situations.
Assassins Creed 2
The franchise became a real power in the gaming industry with the release of Assassin’s Creed 2. The storyline follows Ezio as he seeks retribution against those who wronged his family during the height of the Italian Renaissance while learning about mysteries left behind by an ancient race known as the First Civilization.
Assassin’s Creed 2’s realistic open environment, in which the player can discover Florence, Venice, Monteriggioni, and Forli, was universally praised at the time of its release. This viewpoint is still valid today, as constrained combat options and a narrower scale do not detract from a tight, concentrated narrative and gaming experience.
Assassins Creed Origins
In Egypt around the conclusion of the Ptolemaic Period, roughly 49 BCE, is where Assassin’s Creed: Origins is set. It examines the war between The Order of the Ancients, who were the forerunners of the Templars, and The Hidden Ones, who were the Assassins’ forebears. While maintaining the open-world and stealth features typical of the genre, it emphasizes role-playing components.
Assassins Creed Brotherhood
Brotherhood, the second game in the trilogy featuring the protagonist Ezio Auditore da Firenze, ushers in the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s golden period. His mission to overthrow his adversaries, the wealthy Borgia family, and revive the Assassin order both remain unfulfilled.
Brotherhood was well-received by critics and was set in Rome in the sixteenth century. Even though its weighted average is 89 when the Xbox 360 and PC versions are included, the PS3 version of the game received a 90 on Metacritic. Although the tale doesn’t always reach the same heights as Assassin’s Creed 2, it was nonetheless a more than deserving successor to a legendary predecessor thanks to its fantastic location, enhanced gameplay, and intriguing side material.
Assassins Creed Black Flag
In comparison to previous Assassin’s Creed games, Black Flag had significantly different gameplay. The game’s action takes place primarily on ships and is set in the Caribbean in the 18th century during the Golden Age of Piracy. Strategy and exploration are given special attention. In the movie Black Flag, Matt Ryan’s character Edward Kenway, a Welsh pirate, encounters the Assassin/Templar clash.
Assassins Creed Mirage
The predecessor to Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, is set 11 years earlier in ancient Baghdad and centers on Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street robber turned Hidden One. Basim plays a significant role in Valhalla, but Mirage can be enjoyed very well on its own. By building on the strengths of its predecessor, Mirage brings the series’ stealth action closer to its roots. The majority of Mirage’s immediate narrative, which takes place in Baghdad, more than makes up for any weak spots in the game’s overall plot, which stumbles in a few crucial locations.
Assassins Creed Valhalla
Odyssey’s replacement, Valhalla, is the most recent Assassin’s Creed RPG. The Viking Eivor, who gets entangled in the old war between the Templars and Assassins, is controlled by the player during the Viking Invasion of Britain in the year 872 CE.
Since its announcement, Valhalla has been eagerly anticipated and praised for both the story and the setting. Even though some of the side stuff can get boring after a while, Odyssey is improved by the less gritty approach to the equipment. The fact that Valhalla takes a typical approach doesn’t prevent it from being a positive overall experience, as evidenced by its average Metacritic score of 83.
Assassins Creed 3
The fifth game overall and the sequel to Revelations, Assassin’s Creed 3 is set during the American Revolution and continues the game’s post-apocalyptic plot. It garnered generally favorable reviews, earning an average weighted Metacritic score of 83.
When the game was accused of encouraging American nationalism while allegedly having anti-British sentiment, especially in its marketing, it courted some controversy. After the game’s release, reviewers agreed that all sides were fairly represented, supporting the developers’ contention that jingoism was not portrayed or supported by the game.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
With the 2018 release of Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, the franchise entered full RPG mode. Odyssey, which took place during the years 431-422 BC, sent players farther back in time than ever before. The Peloponnesian War serves as the setting for this game, in which the player takes control of a mercenary who battles on both sides while looking for their family.
Odyssey earned positive reviews from critics for its powerful Assassin’s Creed protagonist Kassandra, as well as for its characters, setting, plot, gameplay, and story, earning an 85 on Metacritic. The game’s scope occasionally outweighed its depth, and the emphasis on having a ton of content made some of the missions feel tedious or cliched.
Assassins Creed Revelations
The fourth game in the main series, Revelations, continues Desmond Miles’ journey as he attempts to stop the 2012 apocalypse. Desmond Miles is still voiced by Nolan North. The majority of the action takes place in Masyaf, Cappadocia, and Constantinople in the 12th and 13th centuries.
Brotherhood and Assassin’s Creed 2 received praise after them, but Revelations experienced a modest decline due to its cosmetic features and coverage of a less interesting portion of Ezio’s overall Assassin’s Creed plot.
Assassins Creed
The first Assassin’s Creed, the game that started it all, already demonstrated the potential of the franchise. Desmond Miles, the series’ contemporary lead, is introduced in this game, which is set during the Third Crusade in the Holy Land. Also introduced is the main struggle between the Assassins and the Templars.
