What Happened Before This Episode

The previous episode took a bold swing, transporting Maggie and Negan into an alternate reality where the zombie apocalypse never happened. Maggie reunited with her sister Beth, while she and Negan met as strangers and spent time together in New York — before the story snapped back to the present, where Maggie learns about Negan’s actions and the growing danger threatening their community.

What to Expect in “Hourglass”

Episode 7 pulls the story firmly back to the settlement, with Maggie turning to Negan for help as an looming threat puts their community at risk. Their fragile alliance faces fresh strain after Hershel reveals Negan attacked Dillard — a revelation that turns the hospital group against him, with Renata already convinced of the danger he poses. The newly released trailer shows the tension boiling over, with Negan holding Maggie at gunpoint as the season barrels toward its finale.

Why This Episode Matters

The alternate-reality episode hinted that Maggie and Negan might be trapped in a repeating cycle — she preserves tradition at personal cost, while he takes his sense of justice too far. Episode 7’s confrontation suggests they could be heading down that same destructive path in the real world, though there’s still a chance they break the cycle before the finale.
