The Throne Was Never a Cage: Loki’s “Perfect” Ending Just Got Rewritten

Fans called Loki’s Season 2 finale one of the best endings in the MCU. He sacrificed himself, took the throne at the end of time, and held the Multiverse together forever. Now Marvel appears to be quietly bending that finality, and Tom Hiddleston’s God of Stories looks like he’s heading back into the fight.

How Season 2 Ended?

Loki mastered time slipping, destroyed the Temporal Loom, and used his own magic to revive the dying timeline branches. Then he sat at the centre of a living Multiversal tree, holding every timeline so others could be free. The show made clear this came at a price: he wasn’t meant to leave.

What Changed?

Avengers Endgame: Encore’s altered ending shows Loki turning up on a branched timeline to help Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). He seems to be relocating them to another universe, possibly to stop an incursion. He’s wearing his old TVA outfit instead of his God of Stories look.

If Loki can show up outside the end of time, the throne wasn’t a cage after all. The most likely explanation is that he can project an avatar of himself into timelines in danger.

Russo’s Tease

Speaking to Empire, Anthony Russo hinted that Doomsday will bring a “new incarnation” of Loki. That fuels two theories:

• The projection theory: this is the real God of Stories sending a version of himself out to protect the Multiverse.
• The variant theory: it’s another Loki, sent by the original to do his bidding.

Why Loki May Be in Danger?

The TVA post-credits scene showed incursions destroying worlds in real time. The Yggdrasil-shaped tree turned red, and O.B. declared the Multiverse is collapsing. Doctor Doom appears to be behind it.

One popular theory says Doom may already be at the end of time, attacking Loki to destabilise everything and seize power. It could even explain why Doom is so strong, if he has absorbed some of Loki’s Multiversal power. That’s only a theory, but it points to a rough road for Loki, with a possible death in the cards.

What to Watch For?

When Doomsday arrives on December 18, 2026, watch which Loki you see and whether he’s wearing the TVA suit or the God of Stories look. The answer should tell you whether he’s a projection, a variant, or something new.
