What if your worst painting accidentally freed a legend? That is the hook of The Painted Soul, the new Korean animation Viki has just teased. The fresh teaser landed this week, and it sets up a story where art is quite literally power.
The Painted Soul: The Story in a Nutshell
Yun Hwa is an apprentice painter in a world where paintings can shape reality. The best artists serve Shinpilwon, a royal institution that keeps order through art. Her problem is that her final promotion exam is close, and she hasn’t completed a single successful painting in ten years.
Desperate, she breaks into a forbidden annex and wakes Seol Jin, a legendary spirit painter sealed away a century ago. His curse, the Dohwasal, has driven countless people to death. Yet it mysteriously doesn’t affect her, and her brush may be the one thing that can save him. Bound by fate, the two must rely on each other to survive and rewrite their world’s destiny.
What the Teaser Shows?
The clip opens with Yun Hwa waking Seol Jin. He is stunned that someone who paints so badly managed to break his barrier. As it goes on, he slides into a mentor role while the pair face unexpected dangers. It’s equal parts comedy and mystery, and that odd-couple dynamic is the heart of the show.
