The Outer Worlds 2 Reveals Wild New Sci-Fi Weapons

Obsidian Entertainment has finally given fans a proper look at The Outer Worlds 2, and the first gameplay trailer shines a spotlight on what’s shaping up to be a wildly inventive sci-fi arsenal. Set on the brand-new colony of Arcadia, the sequel builds on the original game’s weapons systems with all these kinds of crazy tools of destruction that should mix up combat in some fun ways.

First Look at The Outer Worlds 2 Arsenal: Freeze Rays, Fire Blasters, and Sci-Fi Weapon Upgrades

We get to see the variety of futuristic weapons that can be tailored for different styles of play in the trailer. Guns that freeze foes solid and shatter them, or launch electrified orbs, or create fiery blasts for crowd control are among the highlights. These additions are a definite step forward in gameplay, adding a lot more variety and fun combat scenarios. Stealth devotees aren’t ignored, either, as the sequel provides silent takedown options for those who prefer understatement to bombast.

Another fan-favorite feature from the original makes a return—Science Weapons—with even more bizarre and imaginative effects. Known for bending the conventions of traditional warfare, these weapons in the follow-up are said to be able to grant powers like time control and short-range teleportation that provide tactical gains that extend well beyond pure damage. Post-combat, The Outer Worlds 2 – a richly diverse universe – gives players the chance to explore dense alien jungles, icy outposts, and sprawling futuristic cities.

The story focuses on the player being a potential new agent of the Earth Directorate, amidst a war of power by several competing factions for control of Arcadia. Obsidian is leaning into what made the first game a hit—satirical storytelling, reactive dialogue, and freedom of choice—while giving the sequel a clear visual and mechanical upgrade. The Outer Worlds 2 is set to launch in 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
