For weeks, the Client has been VisionQuest’s biggest mystery, a digitally distorted voice and a shadowy silhouette pulling the strings. Episode 7, “Immolation,” finally showed his face, and it belongs to James Spader. Yes, the same face as Ultron’s human avatar.

What Happened?
The Client offered Vision a deal: surrender in exchange for the missing source code needed to save Lisa Molinari from Jocasta’s nanobot. Vision accepted. At the episode’s end, a deactivated Vision and Jocasta were delivered to a mansion, where the Client revealed himself without saying a word, seemingly at peace with his prize.

Is He Ultron?
Not exactly. Ultron remains active in Vision’s mindscape and reacts to the reveal, so the Client isn’t the AI himself. He appears to be the human model Ultron’s avatar was based on. Ultron even seems to have “killed” FRIDAY to protect this secret, suggesting the two may be working together.
The Horton Connection
The mansion belongs to Phineas T. Horton, the 1939 inventor who looks just like Vision’s human form. That points toward the Client being a Horton descendant, though the episode never confirms it. It would tie him neatly to the origins of Vision, JIM, Ultron and Jocasta.
His Link to Jocasta
The episode shows the Client in a romantic relationship with Jo Carrington, the neuroscientist whose consciousness lives inside Jocasta. Together they broke barriers in neuroscience and AI, and their technology was later sold to Stark Industries, becoming the foundation for JARVIS. Ultron’s chilling “peace in our time” line also traces back to this man.
What Does He Want? (Theory)
The leading theory says the Client wants to finish the AI project he and Jo started, the one that slipped away when it went to Tony Stark. That could mean using Vision’s powerful body and Jocasta’s recovered memories to complete it. The “peace in our time” connection also raises the possibility that the nanobots could be used to control humanity, as they did to Lisa. His motive remains officially unknown.
Where to Watch the Next Move?
