How Roper Outsmarted Everyone

Tom Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine discovered his arch-enemy Richard Roper operating in Colombia as “Gilberto Hanson.” Pine recruited Roper’s illegitimate son Teddy to expose his father’s illegal arms dealing operation—but Roper anticipated everything.

When Roxana failed to lure Pine into an assassination trap, Roper diverted the weapons shipment. The arms reached the Cabrera camp, triggering Colombia’s civil war—exactly what Roper wanted.

Teddy’s Heartbreaking Death

Teddy turned against Roper after Pine revealed audio of his father dismissing him. During the jungle confrontation, Roper discovered the betrayal and coldly shot Teddy in the head after telling him he had “the face of an angel” when born. It’s the season’s most tragic moment.

Angela Burr’s Shocking Assassination

Olivia Colman’s Angela Burr gathered evidence against the conspiracy beyond Roper. Just as she prepared to expose the network, an assassin murdered her at home in front of her daughter, severing Pine’s last institutional connection.

Why Pine Lost Everything

Unlike Season 1’s triumph, Season 2 ends in devastating failure. Pine survives—rescued by detective Martin Alvarez who dies saving him—but loses all allies (Teddy, Martin, Basil, Angela), his intelligence network, and any leverage against Roper.

Setting Up Season 3’s Final Battle

Creator David Farr confirmed Season 3 will complete the trilogy with Pine’s revenge-fueled confrontation. Roper returns to his Oxfordshire home, casually listening to reports of Colombia’s civil war—carnage he orchestrated—before switching to music. Season 3 promises the darkest chapter yet.
