The Monster of Florence Is Coming Back to Netflix — And the ‘Snack Buddies’ Case Is Even Darker Than the First Chapter

If the first chapter of The Monster of Florence left you unsettled, haunted, and desperately craving more — good news and terrifying news all at once: Netflix has officially greenlit a brand-new installment of the acclaimed Italian true-crime anthology. And this time, it’s diving into perhaps the most disturbing and unresolved chapter of the entire saga.

What We Know So Far: Quick Facts

Why Netflix Renewed It — And Why It Matters

The first chapter of The Monster of Florence quickly became Netflix’s most-watched non-English language series globally in its first week and took home the prestigious Nastro d’Argento Grandi Serie Award for Best Crime Series. That kind of reception made a renewal not just likely — it was practically inevitable.

The first chapter explored the initial “Sardinian lead” line of inquiry. This upcoming three-episode installment will leap forward in time, pivoting to the highly controversial “Snack Buddies” lead and centering specifically on the figure of Pietro Pacciani — the primary suspect in eight double murders that terrorized Italy between 1968 and 1985.

The real case remains one of Italy’s most chilling unsolved mysteries. You can read more about the Monster of Florence case and its decades-long investigation on Wikipedia. For more Netflix updates and streaming news, head over to TechnoSports.

What the Director Says About the New Chapter

Director Stefano Sollima — who also helmed Adagio and Without Remorse — has been clear about his vision for the anthology format from the start. He shared that the series was always imagined as standalone stories, each dedicated to one of the different suspects in the crimes that shocked Tuscany and Italy between the 1970s and 1980s, across an investigation that lasted over 30 years.

On the specific focus of the new chapter, Sollima noted that Pacciani’s case remains the most disturbing because guilt was never proven, but also never completely ruled out — making it a court case that divided Italian public opinion for decades. whats-on-netflix

That ambiguity is exactly what makes true crime compelling — and what will keep audiences riveted.

Who Is Behind the New Chapter?

Stefano Sollima returns to the director’s chair alongside co-creator Leonardo Fasoli. The new chapter is produced by AlterEgo and Wildside, a Fremantle company — the same powerhouse behind global hits like The Young Pope, My Brilliant Friend, and There’s Still Tomorrow. whats-on-netflix
