The MediaTek MT9638 SoC will be powering next-gen 4K Smart TVs

MediaTek has been on the forefront of making chips for Smart TVs and devices for quite some time now. As the Smart TV market gets heated up and 4K TVs are on high demand, MediaTek has launched a new SoC that is specifically made to power next-gen 4K Smart TVs.

As the Taiwanese chipmaker claims, the MediaTek MT9638 is a high performance SoC designed for premium 4K60 HDR Smart TVs with MEMC capability. It combines a high performance, multi-core CPU and APU (AI processing unit), wide memory bus, modern GPU, and a number of image and audio enhancement tools.

The integrated APU enables up to 10X faster processing times compared to external AI-chip solutions, at considerably lower power and with a reliability that avoids dropped frames, ensuring a high quality viewing experience.

To deliver the best content, the MT9638 can decode 4K content (AV1, HEVC, VP9), also supports Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual X surround sound, global HDR standards and displays with up to 2304 backlight dimming zones, providing viewers best-in-class experiences for cinematic entertainment.

Not only this, MediaTek has used its experience of powering Smart speakers and IoT devices to integrate AI voice recognition with the SoC. MediaTek AI voice technologies will allow brands to integrate voice assistants directly into their smart TVs, enabling users to directly control their TV or allowing other home IoT integration.

Specifications:
