Matt Reeves’ Gotham is getting its most dangerous new resident yet. The Batman Part II has officially confirmed two massive casting updates that DC fans have been waiting months for — and honestly? The wait was worth it.

Sebastian Stan is set to play Harvey Dent, and Andy Serkis is officially back as Alfred Pennyworth. The sequel is shaping up to be something truly special.

Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent — Why This Casting Is Perfect

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stan will be portraying Harvey Dent, the idealistic District Attorney whose destiny it is to have his face horribly scarred, which breaks his psyche and transforms him into the villainous Two-Face.

Unlike Batman or the Joker, Harvey Dent has never been given the proper balance on screen. Billy Dee Williams never got the chance to turn his suave Harvey into a villainous persona, Tommy Lee Jones’ take barely showed any trace of the good man Harvey used to be, and Aaron Eckhart’s transformation into Two-Face in The Dark Knight felt like it had barely happened before the film came to a close. Stan — known for his layered performances in the MCU — could finally give the character the full arc he deserves.

Andy Serkis Is Back as Alfred — And It Means Everything

Alfred’s return stands out because it speaks less to the sequel’s expanding world than to its emotional core. Serkis previously said he hopes the sequel will push the emotionally complex dynamic between Alfred and Bruce to the extreme. MovieWeb

There was some behind-the-scenes scheduling work required to ensure Andy’s production days on The Batman II would not interfere with his New Line movie Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which releases December 17, 2027 — but they’ve managed to make both shoots work. Just Jared
