Just when fans thought Avengers: Secret Wars would be Thanos’ final MCU bow, a new interview suggests otherwise. Loki showrunner Michael Waldron, who’s also attached to Marvel’s upcoming Nova movie, dropped a telling hint that the Mad Titan’s legacy isn’t finished — and it all centers on the destruction of Xandar.
What Was Actually Said
Speaking with The Wrap, Waldron was pressed on whether Nova would need to address Thanos wiping out the Nova Corps off-screen in Infinity War. Rather than deny it, he agreed that the story would eventually have to address the fallout of that event. He stayed coy about his overall Marvel involvement but confirmed his love for the character Richard Rider and teased expanding the MCU’s cosmic corner.

Why This Theory Makes Sense
Xandar’s destruction has long been considered one of the MCU’s biggest missed moments — shown only in dialogue, never on screen. Using it as the backbone of Richard Rider’s Nova origin would give the cosmic side of the MCU real continuity instead of a soft reboot. It would also tie a beloved new hero directly to the Infinity Saga’s most devastating villain, making his introduction resonate with longtime fans.
Actor Josh Brolin has also said he’d return as Thanos without hesitation if Marvel called, adding fuel to the theory that this isn’t the character’s true final scene.
