Exclusive First Glimpse: Tata Curvv SUV Spotted During Initial Testing Phase

Tata Curvv, which was unveiled last year as a concept vehicle and is set to launch in 2024, will come in three different powertrain options: electric, petrol, and diesel. The production version of Tata Curvv will be the company’s first coupe-style SUV and has been spotted for the first time. This model fills the gap between Tata’s compact Nexon and Harrier SUVs, as the company currently does not have any offerings in the compact SUV segment, which is highly competitive and lucrative for automakers.

All About the Tata Curvv

With a length of 4.3 meters, Curvv will compete with popular models like Hyundai Creta, MG Astor, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota HyRyder, and the upcoming Honda Elevate. Built on the Gen 2 platform, which also serves as the foundation for the Blackbird project, Curvv will feature distinctive front and rear ends to differentiate itself from the Nexon and establish its unique identity as an SUV. Compared to the Nexon, Curvv will have a slightly longer wheelbase, more prominent rear overhang, and longer rear doors.

Tata Curvv will prioritize safety and build quality, taking cues from Nexon, which scored a solid five-star safety rating in Global NCAP tests. The compact SUV’s shell, windscreen, body panels, and doors are expected to be retained to maintain structural integrity, safety standards, and cost efficiency. Curvv’s roofline will follow a coupe-inspired design, sloping and tapering as it seamlessly merges with the fastback trunk. The increased wheelbase and rear overhang will provide more interior space for occupants and a larger boot compared to the Nexon.

In terms of powertrain options, Tata Curvv will be available as an electric vehicle (EV), petrol-powered, and diesel-powered variant. The Gen 2 platform offers flexibility to accommodate different body styles and battery pack sizes. It is anticipated that Curvv’s electric version will provide a range of approximately 500 km and feature an improved and faster charging system compared to existing Tata EVs like the Nexon EV and Tigor EV.

Furthermore, a new 1500cc petrol engine is being developed for Curvv, based on the existing 1200cc three-cylinder engine found in the Nexon but with four cylinders for smoother performance and around 160 horsepower. The diesel variant will also have a 1500cc engine with increased power and torque compared to the current engine.

Overall, Tata Curvv aims to capture the compact SUV market segment with its unique design, versatile powertrain options, emphasis on safety and build quality and competitive features. With its anticipated launch in 2024, Tata’s entry into the coupe-style SUV category is expected to bring a fresh and exciting offering to Indian consumers.
