Top 10 Most Valuable Footballers in 2021

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all transfer budgets of clubs have taken a hit and so have the transfer values of players. Some players have kept up top-form to keep their values high while some have not been at their best and have seen their values drop. Here are the top 10 most valuable footballers in 2021.

    10. Kevin De Bruyne – $111.7 Million

    Age: 29

    Position: Midfield

    Nationality: Belgium

    Club: Manchester City

We start off our list with the midfield maestro Kevin De Bruyne. He has been rallying his club Manchester City to glory this season. With the league almost in the bag, the Belgian star will have his eyes set on winning his first-ever Champions League.

    9. Raheem Sterling – $111.7 Million

    Age: 26

    Position: Winger

    Nationality: England

    Club: Manchester City

De Bruyne’s clubmate, Raheem Sterling has not been at his level best this season. However, the tail-end of the season is providing the best opportunity for the English winger to go ahead and get some goals in the Champions League and win his club their first ever CL.

    8. Sadio Mane – $111.7 Million

    Age: 29

    Position: Winger

    Nationality: Senegal

    Club: Liverpool

One-half of Liverpool’s African wing duo, Sadio Mane, has been below par this season, to say the least. Compared to a prolific last season with 22 goals in all competitions and the Premier League triumph, Mane has not lived up to the expectations this season.

    7. Trent Alexander Arnold – $111.7 Million

    Age: 22

    Position: Right Back

    Nationality: England

    Club: Liverpool

The first and only defender on our list is Liverpool’s young right-back, Trent Alexander Arnold. Not at his best this season, just like his clubmate Mane. Weak performances have shown in the club’s performance as they will go trophyless this season.

    6. Jadon Sancho – $111.7 Million

    Age: 21

    Position: Winger

    Nationality: England

    Club: Borussia Dortmund

After a very average start to a season where he was expected to perform (after the Transfer Saga involving Manchester United), Jadon Sancho picked up form midway. He has 12 goals and 16 assists in all competitions this season.

    5. Neymar – $123 Million

    Age: 29

    Position: Winger

    Nationality: Brazil

    Club: Paris Saint Germain

The Brazilian star, Neymar, has had a great season. With 14 goals and nine assists in all competitions, Neymar is set to play the Champions League semi-finals and also sees his team within touching distance to win the Ligue 1.

The other half of Liverpool’s African winger duo, Mohamed Salah, is having another prolific season in front of the goal even though his club is not having a good season. He has already scored 20 goals in the league and is just behind Harry Kane in the Golden Boot race.

    3. Erling Haaland – $123 Million

    Age: 20

    Position: Striker

    Nationality: Norway

    Club: Borussia Dortmund

The youngest player on our list, Norway’s Erling Haaland burst onto the scene last year with his deadly finishing skills. This year he has not disappointed while playing for his new club Dortmund. He has scored 37 goals and given 11 assists in all competitions this season.

    2. Harry Kane – $134.1 Million

    Age: 27

    Position: Striker

    Nationality: England

    Club: Tottenham Hotspurs

Harry Kane is having one of his best seasons in the league as he tops the charts for both goals scored (21) and assisted (13). However, just like it has been for him at Tottenham, he is on course to having another trophyless season. He may leave in the summer, we have to wait and watch.

    1. Kylian Mbappe – $178.76 Million

    Age: 22

    Position: Centre-Forward

    Nationality: France

    Club: Paris Saint Germain

Who else but the young World Cup winner to be the most valuable footballer in 2021. Kylian Mbappe has had another emphatic season with 37 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. His Champions League dream, which was quashed last season by Bayern Munich, is still alive this season. PSG are the favorites to win it and Mbappe will have to be on his best game.

  • Manchester City news: Kane as Aguero replacement, Sterling and Kayky signing

Manchester City news: Kane as Aguero replacement, Sterling and Kayky signing

When a club legend like Sergio Aguero departs, it is only normal to expect Manchester City to invest in replacing the best striker in their history. However, Pep Guardiola has said no to any form of crazy spending this summer. That would involve splurging sums worth over €100 million for a single player.

One of the names that has been heavily linked to be the replacement for Aguero at City is England captain Harry Kane. However, Tottenham want to keep Kane at the club since he is their best player after all. The player has two years of contract left, and m wants to play Champions League football regularly as a striker of his calibre should.

Additionally, Kane is entering his late twenties and Tottenham are in a difficult race to try and qualify for the Champions League next season which makes the situation even more complicated.

Elsewhere at the club, Kevin De Bruyne agreed a new deal with Manchester City for which negotiations took place without an agent. This apparently saved Kevin De Bruyne €8 million, and his teammate, Raheem Sterling is the next to get a contract offer. In 2022, Phil Foden will be the one to be offered a new deal since City expect him to stay for a long time.

Fluminense winger Kayky is confirmed to be joining Manchester City in the summer of 2022. The 17-year-old will either go on loan to a City group club, or stick to the academy. €30-45 million was reportedly the original value of the player and Manchester City have negotiated that down to under €20 million.

  • Top 5 goal contributors in Europe’s top five leagues

Top 5 goal contributors in Europe’s top five leagues

Attackers in football have always had a better claim to the limelight than their midfield or defensive counterparts. Moreover, their credibility is more often than not debated on the basis of what the numbers say.

Taking that into account let’s have a look at some of the top highest goal contributions in terms of goals and assists provided in league competitions only.

    5. Cristiano Ronaldo – 28 (25G 3A)

Fabrizio Romano provides an update on Cristiano Ronaldo situation

While Juventus have not been having a great season as a club, Cristiano Ronaldo has had another season with 20+ goals scored, and it could be even higher by the time the season reaches its conclusion. However, despite his spoils in the league he only ranks 5th in Europe in terms of the total goal contributions.

    4. Romelu Lukaku – 30 (21G 9A)

The Belgian has been phenomenal for Inter Milan, who currently find themselves as the leaders in the race for the Scudetto. Lukaku’s past struggles at United seem like a distant memory in comparison to the absolute beast of a striker that we see operating alongside Lautaro Martinez under Antonio Conte.

    3. Lionel Messi – 31 (23G 8A)

La Pulga has been prolific as ever despite enduring the shakiest start to the season in over a decade. He currently leads the La Liga scoring charts and could win another Pichichi Trophy. This could be his fifth consecutive one and eighth overall.

    2. Harry Kane – 32 (19G 13A)

Kane currently leads not only the race for the Golden Boot but also leads the league in terms of assists. Tottenham are currently competing for a Champions League berth, but Kane is having arguably the best individual season of his career and could finish as the leader in both races when the season ends.

    1. Robert Lewandowski – 41 (35G 6A)

The Polish international is without a doubt the best number 9 in the world, and could break the record for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season. Although currently out injured, Lewandowski is still way ahead of the rest in terms of the numbers and it is unlikely that anyone will be able to match them despite his absence.

  • Spurs yet to complete negotiations with Son; Kane could leave this summer

Spurs yet to complete negotiations with Son; Kane could leave this summer

Tottenham are reportedly still on the verge of agreeing on a new contract with Son Heung-min and have been in negotiations with the Korean for the better part of the season. The player has emerged as one of the most important figures on the pitch for the London club, with 22 goal contributions in the league for Spurs.

He has formed a formidable partnership with Harry Kane and the pair has been an absolute revelation under Jose Mourinho, with both forwards assisting each other’s goals numerous times throughout the season. While Tottenham are not at the top of the league anymore, Spurs are still confident that they will talk things out with their player and convince him to extend.

The same certainty possibly does not extend to their single best player over the last few years, Harry Kane. The England captain has been absolutely outstanding as an individual performer this season, being both the top scorer and the highest assist provider so far this season, amassing 32 goal contributions in 28 games played.

There have been rumours in recent days which say that Kane is planning on moving on from Spurs for good in the summer. The main reason being the severe drought of silverware, and at 28, a striker of the calibre of Kane does not have a lot of time left to have a career decorated with trophies to supplement his talent on the pitch.

While he has three years left on his contract, the Spurs will be determined to keep a hold on him for the future, but Kane could try and force his way out especially if Champions League football does not come through next season.

  • Manchester City’s options for Aguero replacement, midfield options

Manchester City’s options for Aguero replacement, midfield options

Now that Sergio Aguero is sure to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, the club have a lot of options to explore like Erling Haaland and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan and will decide at the end of the season but are sure to invest in a first team striker in the summer.

The club is also looking at midfielders for the summer, and City scouts are looking at Manuel Locatelli of Sassuolo. Juventus are pushing for him, and are in the race for the player for a while now. Pep Guardiola needs something different now, more physical than technical and needs to look away from Zakaria to the likes of Locatelli and potentially someone who fits the bill of a physical specimen in the heart of the park.

Manchester City are also looking at Harry Kane as a potential replacement for Aguero, and Spurs don’t want to lose him, keeping in mind the contract situation surrounding the England captain. They are preparing to keep him at the moment, and will talk about his contract as soon as they can.

But all that said, it won’t be easy to retain him but it won’t be an easy negotiation considering the drought of silverware and the monetary demands of the player.

  • Harry Kane and Son Heung-min set PL record

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min set PL record

Harry Kane was involved in all four of Tottenham’s goal against Crystal Palace, as the hosts managed to win 4-1 against Palace. Son Heung-min assisted Kane’s second goal in the match, which set a record for the most goals assisted for one another in a season. And what’s more, the season is far from over.

Elsewhere on the pitch, Gareth Bale also had a good night out, scoring two against Palace and creating great chances throughout the game, giving the opposition’s defenders barely a moment’s worth of rest when he had the ball at his feet.

Kane now has the most number of assists in the Premier League this season, with 13 to his name. He is also joint second in the race for the Golden Boot with 16 goals this campaign. All in all, Kane’s 29 goal contributions this season is the most and is undisputed at this point.

While Tottenham might be having a tumultuous season, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have had their best season together, as well as individually. And the stats are there to show for it. In the league, Spurs are in sixth place, level on points with fellow London club West Ham United.

But they will have a chance to lift silverware for the first time in over a decade with the League Cup final against Manchester City coming up later in the season. But Mourinho will be expected to deliver the Europa League trophy at the end of the season much more than the League Cup since they are favourites in the competition.

  • Tottenham news: Kane has not asked to leave, Spanish clubs target Lo Celso

Tottenham news: Kane has not asked to leave, Spanish clubs target Lo Celso

In a season that has seen Harry Kane add the role of provider to his reputation of being a world-class goal-getter, the England captain has been linked with a potential move and rumours that he asked to leave the club due to the drought of silverware that exists at Tottenham.

However, speaking on the topic on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that at the moment he hasn’t asked to leave and that the rumours are false. Kane knows that Spurs are prepared to offer him a new contract this summer, but they are not negotiating yet.

He is waiting and is focused on playing and giving his best for the team on the pitch. There is nothing imminent with a potential replacement for Mourinho or the departure of Harry Kane from the club, which should give Spurs fans less to worry about.

Keeping in line with the topic of departures from the club, Giovanni Lo Celso has been a target for a lot of LaLiga clubs as a lot of important clubs from Spain are interested. He was playing well during his time with Real Betis on loan, and it is no surprise to see other clubs willing to try and get him back in the country. Currently, though, he is very happy with the club alongside Erik Lamela.

  • Mourinho praises Kane-Son duo as they scored 76% of Spurs Premier League goals this season

Mourinho praises Kane-Son duo as they scored 76% of Spurs Premier League goals this season

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur faced Marcelo Bielsa’s newly-promoted Leeds United. Leeds created multiple chances early on by a Kane penalty settled the nerves as they went on to win the match by 3-0.

Tottenham forwards, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min continued their fine form and combined for their 13th league goal of the season. They have equalled the all-time Premier League record set by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton for Blackburn in 1994/95 – despite only being 16 games into this season. They are on the path of making a record which will be almost impossible to break.

Son has also scored his 100th goal for Tottenham Hotspur after signing from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen five and a half years ago.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane becomes the first player this season to reach double figures for goals (10) and assists (10) in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

Jose Mourinho is extremely happy with the performance of this duo and said they are achieving special things this season.

He told BT Sport: “The three points are very important. I think we understood well how they could hurt us and how we could hurt them. In that aspect I am happy but I still think we can and have to do better.”

Mourinho further said about the Kane-Son duo: “Of course, the understanding is good and against Leeds it was important to have that ability in attack. They stay man-to-man so if you stay static you give them an easy job. That movement of Harry Kane and Sonny in the finishing positions fit well.”

“I think in the Premier League there are many good players everywhere even in clubs where you don’t believe they can have great players. But I have to say that Sonny and Harry are doing special things this season.”

“I want goals coming from other players and I want them to feel like they can express themselves. We had Toby [Alderweireld] of course in set-plays. We have played in other positions to score. We have players from other positions appearing in finishing positions which is what I want from them.”

Mourinho further dismissed claims of Spurs playing easier fixtures now after failing to win their last 3 league matches: “When we played the people who are considered the top six people say easier games are coming but I of course don’t believe it. Leeds are difficult and Aston Villa is my favourite team in the Premier League at the moment. I enjoy watching them, they have good players and very well coached. This is up next.”

  • Top 5 Premier League players of 2020

Top 5 Premier League players of 2020

With the calendar year coming to an end, we decided to look at the players who stood out in 2020, despite it being an extremely challenging year for every one of us. Here are the players in the Premier League who defied the odds to make it into the top five starting with…

    5. Jamie Vardy

The last time Vardy managed to win the Golden Boot, Leicester won the Premier League title. And while the foxes did not clinch silverware in 2020, they did go back to Europe. Vardy has continued his form into the 20/21 season and currently finds himself with 11 goals and among the highest scorers in the league.

    4. Mohamed Salah

Will It Be Manchester City or Liverpool That Lifts the Premier League Trophy?
Mo Salah is continuously scoring gaols against his enemy teams

The Egyptian King has managed to score 24 goals and provide 9 assists in 2020, and currently leads the Premier League goalscoring charts with 13 goals to his name. He is one of the main reasons behind Liverpool’s form this season, and has been phenomenal in the calendar year.

    3. Harry Kane

With 19 goal contributions so far in the 20/21 season, and while he didn’t have the best start to the calendar year, being injured with a thigh muscle rupture, the England captain has managed to turn things around with an unbelievable start to the current campaign.

    2. Bruno Fernandes

The Manchester United player has been the primary reason behind United’s success in the back end of the 19/20 season, and the beginning of the 20/21 season as well. 8 goals and 7 assists in 14 games in the last season, and 10 goals with 6 assists this season has undisputedly made the Portuguese indispensable.

    1. Kevin de Bruyne

The Belgian was absolutely phenomenal in the 19/20 season and has continued to bring up the numbers in the 20/21 season as well. Having won the PFA Player of the Year Award, it was only fitting that the best player of the year spot is given to de Bruyne.

  • Tottenham Hotspur news: Kane, Son and Reguilon future updates

Tottenham Hotspur news: Kane, Son and Reguilon future updates

Tottenham have had an unbelievable start to the 20/21 campaign, and while their recent form has dropped a little, it is safe to say that Spurs are genuine title contenders this season. Jose Mourinho has managed to make the footballing world completely forget the season gone by, and baptise the team as something very new.

A huge part of the credit behind the success of the team goes to their two best players, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son. The latter was recently awarded the Korean Player of the Year award for his outstanding 2020 and is currently among the top scorers in the Premier League.

It is only natural that Spurs will try to do everything in their power to keep two of their best players at the club, and an agreement with Son regarding a new deal is close to completion. That update is via Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned that the club and the player were both on the verge of signing the new deal shortly on the “Here We Go” podcast.

Harry Kane currently leads the Premier League in terms of the number of assists in the competition and has been sensational this season. While there was plenty of speculation regarding his future in the past, he looks set to stay at Spurs. Especially considering that no other club in Europe has the capacity to splash out 150 million Euros right now.

Spurs new boy Sergio Reguilon is also very happy at the club and is very focused on the project at hand. He is also enjoying the city and is overall very satisfied with his transfer to London.

While there is still the possibility of Real Madrid activating the buy-back clause in his contract, the final decision regarding the future is up to the player himself. Having only arrived in England recently, Reguilon is part of the title race with Tottenham and is secure with his future at the club for the time being.
