IPL 2023: Dwayne Bravo retires from IPL but will return as CSK’s bowling coach

Chennai Super Kings who earlier had let go of Dwayne Bravo appointed him back as a bowling coach. Bravo’s age and injuries lowered his impact in games. It will be interesting to see Bravo in a completely new role. He took the place of Laximapthy Balaji who is on a 1-year leave due to personal commitments. Mumbai Indians too got Kieron Pollard as their batting coach post his release.

Bravo recalled his playing days in IPL and has been a part of the tournament since the inaugural season, 2008.

“I’m looking forward to this new journey because it’s something I see myself doing after my playing days is fully over. I enjoy working with bowlers and it’s a role I’m excited about. From player to coach, I don’t think I have to adjust much because while I’m playing, I always work with bowlers and try to come up with plans and ideas on how to have that one step ahead of the batsmen. The only difference is I will no longer be standing at mid-on or mid-off! I never thought I would be the leading wicket taker in the history of IPL. But I’m just happy to be a part of IPL history!” Bravo said.

He has scalped the most wickets in IPL, with 183 wickets from 161 games. He mustered 1560 runs at a strike rate of 130 and has contributed to many victories for the team.

Bravo is the highest-ever wicket-taker in the IPL, with 183 wickets from 161 matches. The all-rounder has also scored 1560 runs at a strike rate of around 130, playing key parts in many victories for the Super Kings.

K.S Viswanathan, Chennai Super Kings CEO, said: “Congratulations to Dwayne Bravo on a tremendous career in the IPL. He has been a crucial member of the Super Kings family for more than a decade and we are excited to continue the association. Bravo’s vast experience will be of immense value to our players and support staff. We are confident that our bowling group will thrive under his guidance.”

    Credits- Times Now

He has been a very important part of Chennai Super Kings since 2011 and has been a part of their IPL Cup victories in 2011, 2018, and 2021. Interestingly, he won the first Purple Cup for scalping the most wickets in an IPL season in 2013 and 2015. He is considered to be one of the best death bowlers in the T20 game. He bowled 1115 balls in total between the 17th and 20th overs and scalped 102 wickets.

His wickets came at an economy rate of 8.38 over 158 innings in 161 games. His best figure is 4 for 22.

A tribute to Suresh Raina as he retires from all forms of cricket

Suresh Raina, a former batter for India and Uttar Pradesh, confirmed his retirement from all formats on Tuesday. Notably, on August 15, 2020—shortly after MS Dhoni bid his final farewell—the famous all-rounder had already announced his retirement from international cricket. After Raina announced his retirement, the cricket community expressed their good wishes for the former middle-order hitter from India on social media.

Wishes from the Indian Cricket Fraternity

Suresh Raina received a lot of affection and accolades from his fans and others today as he ends his career in India. The Indian cricket community joined in by wishing the left-hander well on Twitter.

    A Tribute from CSK

The team for which Suresh Raina played, Chennai Super Kings, gave the star batsman a heartfelt send-off on Tuesday, stating that the “streets of Anbuden” would never forget him.

Chennai Super Kings thanked Raina for supporting one of the most popular clubs in Indian Premier League history on Twitter in response to Raina’s move to conclude his career in all forms of cricket.

Since joining the team in the first season of the IPL, the former Indian star has been a crucial component of the Chennai Super Kings setup. He was well-known as MS Dhoni’s assistant at the franchise and was affectionately referred to as “Chinna Thala” by the team’s supporters.

    Suresh Raina’s Career

One of India’s all-time greatest cricketers, Suresh Raina, announced his retirement from all competitions, including the IPL, on September 6, 2022. In 2020, he announced his prior retirement from international cricket.

Over the course of a 13-year international career, Raina participated in 18 Tests, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is for India. He also had the privilege of briefly acting as the group’s captain. Raina amassed 1605 runs in 78 T20Is and 5615 runs in 226 ODIs for India.

After being discharged by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Raina, who won the IPL four times with the CSK, was unclaimed in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He participated in the game commentary crew.

Raina scored 5528 runs in 205 IPL games with an average of 32.52 and a strike rate of 136.76, including one century and 39 50s. In the competition, he made 506 fours and 203 sixes while also taking 108 catches.

Following his departure from international cricket, Raina played primarily in the IPL and played very little domestic cricket. Raina has stated that he plans to play in overseas T20 competitions after retiring from all forms of the game.

He also claimed that he has had offers from franchises in the SA20 and UAE’s ILT20. Raina was a part of the 2011 World Cup-winning team led by MS Dhoni. Raina won’t play for Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming domestic season.

  • MS Dhoni will continue to lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023

MS Dhoni will continue to lead Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023

MS Dhoni, a former captain of India, will remain in charge of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2023, according to franchise CEO Kasi Vishwanathan.

    Captain for IPL 2023

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has guided CSK to four IPL championships, will be close to 42 by the start of the following IPL season. The cricketer is still an important part of their system for sure. As per the sources, Vishwanathan said that MS Dhoni would lead the CSK team in the upcoming IPL season.

Notably, the charismatic captain, who had served as CSK’s captain since the IPL’s debut in 2008, turned over the reins just two days before the start of IPL 2022 to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja returned Dhoni’s captaincy responsibilities midway through the IPL 2022 for the remainder of the season when CSK didn’t do well under his leadership.

    MS Dhoni and CSK

The world Cup-winning skipper had already stated that he would continue to represent the four-time champions during IPL 2022, stating that it would be wrong not to express his gratitude to Chennai and the CSK supporters in front of them. It would be unjust, according to Dhoni, to skip Chennai.

Along with their four IPL championships, CSK won the now-defunct Champions League twice under Dhoni’s leadership, in 2010 and 2014, respectively. Dhoni-led CSK will be seeking to make a successful recovery in IPL 2023 after a disappointing previous season in which they finished in ninth place.

IPL 2022: MS Dhoni takes up captaincy of CSK after 8 disappointing games

MS Dhoni has taken back the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings from Ravindra Jadeja. The all-rounder decided to relinquish his role in charge of the team after struggling to perform, and Dhoni obliged by taking charge of the franchise for the greater good.

The decision to make Jadeja captain of the team was announced only 24 hours before CSK’s first game of the season. This was out of fear that sponsors would pull out due to the brand value of having Dhoni as captain. And now, his brief spell in charge has been cut short following an official statement from the team.

MS Dhoni returns to CSK captaincy

“Look, nothing happens in CSK without MSD’s approval. He is the first, second, third, and last word when it comes to cricketing matters. Doesn’t matter who captains the side. If CSK would have announced Dhoni’s decision to step down two months before IPL, it would have affected the potential team sponsors’ morale.

“Once the sponsors were all locked in, it’s safer to make an announcement,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the news agency PTI.

CSK have stated that stepping down from captaining the club will allow Jadeja to focus more on his individual game. So far, he has taken five wickets and scored 112 runs. Dhoni was seen making key decisions in games despite Jadeja being named captain. This resulted in him looking uncomfortable at times.

Even if MS Dhoni’s return to captaincy can help the team win the rest of their games, it is unlikely that they will be making it to the playoffs this year.

IPL 2022: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reveal their new jersey

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful IPL teams in history, despite being banned for two IPL seasons in 2016 and 2017. CSK has a huge fanbase and having Mahendra Singh Dhoni as their captain adds to their popularity.

The four-time IPL champions have now revealed their new jersey for the IPL 2022 season. CSK captain MS Dhoni unboxed the new jersey.

The new jersey features a camouflage design on the shoulders. This thing was added last year as a tribute to the Indian armed forces. There are also four stars at the top of the CSK logo. The four stars represent the four IPL titles they have won so far in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

KS Viswanathan, CEO of CSK, said, “Chennai Super Kings team is pleased and proud to carry the logo of a trusted, successful, and legacy brand: TVS Eurogrip, on its jersey.”

“As a mark of respect to our soldiers and the association our captain has with the army, we introduced the camouflage on the shoulders last year. It also gelled very well with the yellow. We have added camouflage on the collar at the back of the jersey now.”

MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings will play their first match of this campaign in the IPL 2022 opening match against Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th March.

  • IPL 2021 Champions Chennai Super Kings is all set to become India’s first Sports Unicorn

IPL 2021 Champions Chennai Super Kings is all set to become India’s first Sports Unicorn

Chennai Super Kings have made an unbelievable comeback by winning the IPL this season. This is because they had a terrible 2020 season where they finished last in the group stage. However, the entire CSK squad regrouped and achieved incredible success this season.

Although the IPL glory is not the only success as CSK is gearing to break big records in the commercial sector. CSK’s IPL 2021 title win has given them a significant boost of 65-70% value in their shares in the grey market. As a result, Chennai Super Kings’ market cap is at Rs 4200 Cr.

According to a report by Business Standard, CSK could well overtake it’s parent company India Cements in market capitalization. Currently, CSK’s shares are available at a market price of Rs 135 each. So if Chennai Super Kings surpasses their parent company then they would become the first Sports Unicorn.

N Srinivasan Believes that Chennai Super Kings will outgrow India Cements in the future

If we take a look at India Cements’ share price, the shares of the company are being traded at Rs197. This company has a market cap of Rs 612 crores. So there are high chances that Chennai Super Kings will overtake them as they have already reached 75% of their parent company’s market price.

N Srinivasan who is the managing director of India Cements also has a similar opinion and strongly believes that CSK will outgrow India Cements.

Brand CSK will outgrow Brand India Cements. If you look at the history of franchise-based leagues in the US, it will outgrow everything. Passion for cricket is so much in India. The road between countries will see franchise-based leagues getting the precedence as we go along.”

With Chennai Super Kings being the only sports team in the country that enables public investment. They grab numerous eyeballs of people around the country.

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the Youngest Player to win the Orange Cap in the History of IPL

Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the Youngest Player to win the Orange Cap in the History of IPL

Ruturaj Gaikwad has blossomed into a superstar for CSK this season. The Chennai opener was one of the most important player for them in phase two of IPL 2021. Consequently, Gaikwad also won the orange cap of this season and became the youngest batsman to win this coveted cap in the history of IPL.

The opener scored 32 runs in the finals against KKR which helped him overtake KL Rahul and become the top run-scorer this season. With this achievement, Gaikwad also becomes the second uncapped player to have won the orange cap after Shaun Marsh. The 24-year-old scored 635 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 136.26.

Ruturaj”s excellent contribution at the top of the innings was one of the main reasons why CSK were so dominant this season. Along with Du Plessis, Gaikwad forged numerous great opening partnerships which helped the team set a platform at the start. As a result, both the openers applied pressure on the bowlers with their run scoring which enabled CSK to win their fourth IPL trophy.

A Future gem for Chennai Super Kings and India – Ruturaj Gaikwad

Unlike several batsman who found it difficult in UAE, Ruturaj Gaikwad was one of the few batsman who batted flawlessly in phase two of IPL 2021. The opener has a perfect understanding of when to accelerate his innings which will be beneficial for CSK and India in the future.

Even in games where he looks unsettled, the 24 year old tackles situations with maturity. Ruturaj who made his debut last season has turned into a match winner for CSK. A majority of this credit goes to MS Dhoni. Owing to the fact that he backed Gaikwad when he failed in the first three to four innings. The CSK captain persisted with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top and reaped the benefits this season.

With Gaikwad impressing everyone this season, it will be fascinating to see how he performs next season as there will be a lot of expectations on him.

Cricket fans will be very excited as the finals of IPL 2021 will take place today. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will battle it out against each other for this prestigious IPL trophy at the Dubai International Stadium. Both the teams have won the IPL trophy previously as Chennai has won it thrice and Kolkata has won the IPL two times.

However, CSK will enter this contest to avenge their 2012 finals loss against KKR. Meanwhile, a win for Kolkata will mark an incredible turnaround if we look at their journey.

    Chennai Super Kings

CSK were extremely dominant in the first four games of phase two of IPL 2021. However, the team lost three back to back games and finished second in the group stage. But Chennai regained their form as they chased down a difficult 172 run target set by Delhi in the first qualifier. As a result, they became the first team to qualify in the finals. Speaking about the side, with Dhoni back in form, Chennai seems to be in great shape.

    Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR have made an impressive comeback in phase two of IPL 2021. Before the start of the UAE leg, Kolkata were placed seventh on the table with four points. However, they sparked an incredible recovery to win five of their seven games to qualify in the playoffs. Thereafter this KKR lineup has played brilliantly against RCB and DC to defeat them and reach the finals of the tournament.

Prediction for the IPL 2021 Final between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders

Chennai Super Kings have won their games more convincingly then Kolkata Knight Riders this season. Moreover, they have an upper hand in terms of overall balance considering KKR’s shaky middle order. Other than that there is hardly anything that one can differentiate from the two finalists. As a result, CSK will most likely win the finals of IPL 2021 against KKR.

Fantasy XI for the IPL 2021 finals

Faf Du Plessis 10 Cr (Captain)

The South African batsman has wreaked havoc along with Gaikwad at the top for Chennai Super Kings. He is currently fourth in the orange cap list and would try his best to end this season on a high note. Hence I have selected him as the captain for the finals

    Ruturaj Gaikwad 9.5 Cr

Gaikwad has been in terrific form for Chennai this season. The opener is amongst the top run getters of IPL 2021 and will try to win the orange cup by scoring a good knock for his team.

Venkatesh Iyer 9.5 Cr (Vice captain)

I have selected Venkatesh Iyer as the vice captain for his all round abilities. The Kolkata opener’s knock was extremely crucial for the team in qualifier 2. As a result, his opening partnership with Gill will be important in today’s final.

    Shubhman Gill 8.5 Cr

Gill has played an important part in Kolkata’s success in phase two of IPL this season. The opener has given KKR good starts and is expected to do it once again in the finals.

    Ravindra Jadeja 9.5 Cr

Jadeja has contributed for CSK in both departments this season. He has scored 227 runs and taken 11 wickets. Therefore the all rounder is selected as he will give good points.

    Josh Hazlewood 8.5 Cr

Hazlewood was brilliant for CSK as he picked up two crucial wickets of Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer in the qualifier one. The Australian pace could pose a lot of trouble to the out of form Kolkata middle order in the finals today.

    Shardul Thakur 9 Cr

Thakur has been CSK’s best bowler this season as he has picked up 18 wickets for them. Moreover, his ability to take multiple wickets in a single over makes him a must pick player.

    Lockie Ferguson 9 Cr

Ferguson is Kolkata’s go to bowler in need of wickets. The Kiwi pacer has been terrific in phase two and KKR are expecting that he delivers a great performance in the finals.

    Varun Chakravarthy 9 Cr

Chakravarthy bowled a good spell against Delhi Capitals in the qualifier two. He is in good form this season as he is KKR’s leading wicket taker with 18 scalps to his name. Therefore I have selected him in my fantasy XI side.

    Moeen Ali 9 Cr

Dhoni’s decision to promote Moeen Ali has been remarkable. The English all rounder has delivered with his bat and one can expect him to play a big role in the finals.

    Dinesh Karthik 8.5 Cr

Despite being out of form, Dinish Karthik is a kind of batsman that can help his side out of trouble. So one can expect him to lead his side to a victory with a match-winning innings.

Who are the Favourites to win the IPL 2021 Final that will take place between CSK and KKR?

Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will go head to head against each other in the finals of IPL 2021 today. This fixture will take place at the Dubai International Stadium at 7:30 pm. Both teams had an exceptional phase two of the tournament in UAE and as a result, Chennai and KKR deserve to be in the finals.

Consequently, fans are highly excited to watch this mega showdown. A victory for CSK would mean that they have held the trophy for the fourth time. Meanwhile, KKR will win it’s third IPL trophy if they beat Chennai today.

Speaking about the playoffs and journey of the two finalists, Kolkata had to face a lot of ups and down. Owing to the fact they lost their main player Andre Russell early in phase two due to an injury. However, Venkatesh Iyer, Shubhman Gill and several others stepped up in his absence to help Kolkata finish fourth in the table.

From thereon, KKR took part in two nail biting contests on their way to the finals. To explain it in few words, the middle order of Kolkata have made an meal of easy run chases after their openers have set a platform in the playoffs.

On the other hand, CSK dominated throughout the tournament. However, the Chennai side faced some defeats as the league stage came to an end. But Ms Dhoni and co regained their form against DC in the qualifier and became the first team to reach the IPL 2021 final.

Favourites for the IPL 2021 final between CSK and KKR

There is no doubt that both sides have had an incredible run in phase two of IPL 2021. However, Chennai Super Kings have a slight edge over Kolkata Knight Riders as they enter into this finals. Owing to this fact, all their players have contributed equally and have not been dependent on one player.

Whereas Kolkata’s middle order has struggled a lot during this entire season which makes them vulnerable. Moreover, this KKR side have relied on individual brilliances to bail them out of trouble. For instance, Narine’s performance against RCB in the eliminator and Iyer’s brilliant knock against DC in the qualifier 2.

Their bowling attack has impressed a lot as Ferguson, Mavi and Chakravarthy have all taken a lot of wickets in this phase. Although Chennai have a better balance and is likely to win the finals. Considering the fact, Gaikwad and Du Plessis have been in exceptional form this season. Both players are on the list of top run-scorers of this season.

Moreover, all their bowlers have fired and picked up crucial wickets when required. Last but not least Ms Dhoni finishing the game against DC gives them a great boost against KKR in the finals.

The playoffs of IPL 2021 begins today with table toppers Delhi Capitals taking on Chennai Super Kings in the qualifier one. This fixture will take place at the Dubai Internation Stadium at 7:30 pm IST. As a result, a lot of cricket fans are looking forward for this big clash.

    Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals who are the table-toppers had an incredible group stage as they convincingly qualified for the playoffs of IPL 2021. However, their death bowling and fielding against RCB in the last game was horrible. Hence this could be a concern for them as dropping catches and leaking unwanted runs in the death overs would ruin their chances against Chennai.

    Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings were brilliant throughout this IPL 2021. Although CSK has suffered a major dip in form as they have lost their last three IPL matches of this UAE phase. Their bowling has looked toothless in all their defeats while they are heavily dependent on Du Plessis and Gaikwad to give them a start. As a result, they need a complete team performance in order to defeat Delhi Capitals.

Prediction for the IPL 2021 Qualifier 1 between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings

Despite being in terrible form, Chennai Super Kings will most likely win this playoff contest against Delhi Capitals. This is mainly because of Dhoni’s experience and in addition to that, CSK tend to perform much better during the playoffs. Nonethess, we could witness a thrilling contest between these top two sides today.

Fantasy XI for this Playoff Match of IPL 2021

    Rishabh Pant 9.5 Cr

The Delhi captain has played well in this tournament and one would expect him to elevate his game at a big stage against Chennai.

    Ruturaj Gaikwad 9.5 Cr

Gaikwad has been terrific for CSK as the opener is among the top run getters list for this season’s IPL. As a result, Ruturaj will likely deliver a splendid performance at a decent Dubai pitch.

Faf Du Plessis 10 Cr (Captain)

Du Plessis will be high on confidence after smashing 76 in the last game for Chennai. Moreover, he is second in the IPL 2021 run getters list and a big score could help him overtake Rahul and win the orange cap. So I except him to perform well as he usually does and I have selected him as my captain.

Shreyas Iyer 8.5 Cr (Vice Captain)

Shreyas Iyer’s calm demeanour and good play against spin makes him a great option to pick in the middle order. Moreover, his flexibility to switch between roles of playing as a aggressor or guide the inning made me pick him as the vice captain for today’s game.

    Ambati Rayudu 8.5 Cr

Coming in at a different bathing position, Ambati Rayudu has had a hit and miss kind of season. However, the Chennai batsman’s has played some good innings as a finisher. Thus I have selected him in this lineup.

    Shimron Hetmyer 8.5 Cr

Hetymer has lately played some good knocks for Delhi. The West Indian has helped his side finish game and his team would hope that he does his job in a crucial game that could help them reach the finals.

    Ravindra Jadeja 9.5 Cr

Jadeja is a no brainer in this lineup because the left arm spinner has helped Chennai pick up important breakthroughs and his ability to score quickly and make contributions in the field means that users will surely get good points.

    Axar Patel 9 Cr

After a quiet first few games, Axar Patel is beginning to show his capabilities by taking wickets regularly for Delhi Capital. On a slow pitch like Dubai where things can turnaround, Axar’s bowling will be key for DC against Chennai’s batting order.

    Shardul Thakur 9 Cr

Shardul Thakur has been consistent for Chennai throughout the phase two of IPL 2021. Thus he is an obvious choice in the bowling department for this match.

    Deepak Chahar 8.5 Cr

Deepak Chahar is picked up purely for the budget as it is very difficult to accommodate someone else in the 8.5 range. Owing to the fact, that Hazlewood could be replaced. However, Chahar was in good form in the last game and that indicates positive signs for Chennai today.

    Andre Nortje 8.5 Cr

Nortje has been brilliant for Delhi Capitals as he has taken early breakthroughs and put the opposition side at the backfoot during the powerplay. As a result, Delhi need a similar performance from him against a strong opening pair and one can expect him to pick a wicket in his first spell.
