Stephen Curry’s GOAT Just Dethroned Space Jam — And Now It’s Coming to Netflix a Month Early

If you missed GOAT in theatres earlier this year, your wait is almost over — and it’s shorter than anyone expected. After dethroning Space Jam as the highest-grossing basketball film of all time, Stephen Curry’s animated smash hit GOAT is officially bringing its kinetic streetball energy to Netflix on May 14, 2026 — a full month ahead of its originally anticipated streaming window. whats-on-netflix

GOAT on Netflix — Everything at a Glance

What Is GOAT About?

The story centres on a literal goat named Hapi who discovers he has a supernatural talent for basketball. In a world where animals and humans coexist but rarely compete, Hapi must navigate the underground streetball circuit to prove that an underdog can become the Greatest of All Time. whats-on-netflix

Equal parts sports underdog story and animated comedy, the film is a passion project from NBA legend Stephen Curry and his Unanimous Media banner. It marks another visual stylistic pivot for Sony Pictures Animation, blending 2D and 3D elements to capture the kinetic energy of street basketball.

A Star-Studded Voice Cast

GOAT assembles an impressive ensemble. Stranger Things fans will feel at home with David Harbour and Caleb McLaughlin in the cast, alongside Gabrielle Union, Aaron Pierre, Nicola Coughlan, and Nick Kroll. It’s the kind of voice cast that makes you want to rewind just to catch who’s speaking.

A Box Office Record Breaker

Made on a reported production budget of $80 million, the film easily sailed past profitability and notably became the highest-grossing basketball film of all time, dethroning the original Space Jam. It scored the biggest opening weekend for an original animated film since 2023’s Elemental and became one of the very first 2026 releases to clear the $100 million milestone domestically.

That’s a remarkable achievement for an entirely original concept — no sequels, no pre-existing franchise, just a goat with hoop dreams and a world-class production team behind him.

Why Is It on Netflix Earlier Than Expected?

While the standard Sony Pay-1 window typically opens approximately 120 days after a cinema release, GOAT is hitting the court a whole month earlier than initially expected — 90 days to be exact. Once it drops, it will stream on Netflix for 18 months before heading over to Disney/Hulu properties. whats-on-netflix
