St. Denis Medical Season 2 on Netflix: Release Date, Cast and What to Expect Before Season 3 Hits NBC

If you like your hospital drama with more laughs than heartbreak, good news. All 18 episodes of St. Denis Medical Season 2 are heading to Netflix in the US, just in time to catch up before new episodes air on TV.

What Is St. Denis Medical?

It’s a mockumentary-style workplace comedy set in an underfunded, overworked hospital in Oregon. The doctors and nurses deal with the daily chaos of healthcare while trying to keep their own sanity. The show comes from Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin, the comic minds behind Superstore.

Who’s in the Cast?

• Wendi McLendon-Covey as Joyce, the hospital’s ambitious executive director
• David Alan Grier as Ron, a seasoned but cynical doctor
• Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper and Kaliko Kauahi round out the ensemble

Why the Timing Matters?

The Netflix drop is planned around NBC’s schedule. Season 3 starts on NBC the day before, so viewers can binge Season 2 and then switch to the new episodes. NBC has used this trick before, and Season 1 reached Netflix the same way earlier this year. Netflix is treating network sitcoms as a second window to build audiences.

How Did It Do on Netflix?

Season 1 never reached the daily US top 10 on Netflix. It did spend more than 78 days in the Peacock top 10s. Netflix’s half-year data shows about 6.8 million viewing hours, or roughly 1.1 million views. A bigger audience for Season 2 would not be a surprise, since viewers have a full season to catch up on first.

Should You Watch?

If you enjoy St. Denis Medical-style ensemble comedy, this is an easy binge: short episodes and a cast that clicks. Start with Season 1 if you haven’t, and save November 3 for Season 2.
