Spurs vs MK Dons Pre-Season Friendly: At a Glance

Why This Friendly Matters More Than Usual

After last season’s escape from relegation, Tottenham Hotspur look ahead to the new season under manager Roberto De Zerbi. The pressure is real, but so is the optimism — because the summer transfer business has been extraordinary.

Spurs have spent over £200 million in the summer transfer window in hopes of climbing up the table. The standout arrivals have been Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, for a combined fee of £185 million. Add in Andy Robertson on a free from Liverpool, Jan Paul Van Hecke, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka, and this is a squad that feels genuinely rebuilt.

Team News: Who Plays, Who Misses Out

James Maddison, Mathys Tel, Ben Davies, Archie Gray, Conor Gallagher, Destiny Udogie, Richarlison, and Dominic Solanke are set to get at least 45 minutes.

However, do not expect everyone: Spurs’ World Cup finalists Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero and Marcos Senesi will be absent, along with Djed Spence, who played for England in the bronze final win over France. The game is also expected to come too soon for Lucas Bergvall, Micky van de Ven, Pape Matar Sarr, Jan Paul Van Hecke, and Kevin Danso after their World Cup runs.

Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski are all long-term injury casualties and will not take part.

What About MK Dons?

MK Dons recently earned automatic promotion to League One — so they arrive in good spirits and with something to prove. Paul Warne’s side were beaten 2-1 by NK Istra in Croatia last Friday, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing finding the net for the Dons in the second half. A mix of experience and youth is expected today.
