Spider-Man: Brand New Day Theatrical Re-Release Reportedly in the Works With New Scenes

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” isn’t done making box office history just yet. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are reportedly planning a theatrical re-release of the still-in-cinemas blockbuster, incorporating previously unseen footage — including a cut cameo from Rosario Dawson as fan-favourite nurse Claire Temple.

The Reported Plan

According to Deadline, which first broke the story, sources indicate the extra footage being added won’t be limited to the Claire Temple scene alone, with “more surprises” reportedly included in the expanded cut. No date has yet been set for the re-release, though it follows closely on the heels of Disney’s successful “Avengers: Endgame — Encore” re-release, which added several new short scenes tied to December’s “Avengers: Doomsday” and pulled in $86 million globally over its opening weekend. Some reports speculate a possible Labor Day weekend 2027 window for the Spider-Man re-release, drawing a parallel to Sony’s own re-release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” over Labor Day weekend in 2022.

The Claire Temple Cameo

Rosario Dawson, well known to Marvel fans for playing nurse Claire Temple across Netflix series like “Daredevil” and “Luke Cage,” previously revealed in interviews that she had filmed a scene for “Brand New Day,” only for it to be cut from the theatrical release. Reports suggest the scene was intended to tie into a Daredevil crossover moment within the film. Other reports indicate additional villain appearances, including Tombstone, originally had longer scenes that were trimmed down in the final cut, with speculation that the re-release could restore extended versions of those moments as well.

Brand New Day’s Record-Breaking Run

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, has become the highest-grossing domestic release of all time and the third-highest-grossing film worldwide, with a current tally of roughly $2.496 billion. The film marked Sadie Sink’s introduction as Jean Grey, setting up her role in the upcoming X-Men film, and gave Jon Bernthal’s Punisher his first theatrical MCU appearance.

Why It Matters

With “Avengers: Doomsday” arriving in December and Marvel clearly leaning into the re-release strategy that worked so well for “Endgame,” bringing “Brand New Day” back to theatres with genuine new material gives Sony and Marvel a low-risk way to extend the film’s historic box office run even further, while rewarding fans who felt the Claire Temple cameo was a missed opportunity the first time around.
