Southampton appoint Nathan Jones as new head coach

Southampton have appointed former Luton Town manager Nathan Jones as their new manager after the dismissal of Ralph Hasenhuttl

Jones was named the Championship Manager of the Year last season, as his team failed to gain promotion to the top flight by a narrow margin. And now, he has his first job in the Premier League with the Saints.

Nathan Jones becomes new Southampton manager

“I’m really proud to be given this opportunity,” Nathan Jones told Southampton’s official website.

“I know a lot about the club from back in the days of The Dell, to coming here to St Mary’s, and it’s a wonderful football club.

“A lot of my family are Southampton fans, which doesn’t half help, and I feel really, really proud to be given the opportunity, and I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“Obviously, I wanted to manage in the Premier League, I’ve dreamt of that since I’ve become a coach or a manager, but this club in particular – because of how it’s run, because of the structure, because of how they look deeper than just results – really appeals to me.”

Southampton have moved quickly to replace Hasenhuttl, and will be optimistic of Jones being able to save their season. However, it is worth remembering that it is his first time in the top flight and the pressure of delivering, as well as level of competition is huge.
