Soul, Fate & Fantasy — 45 Just Landed on ZEE5 in Telugu, and Here’s Why You Should Watch

45 The Movie didn’t exactly set the box office on fire during its Christmas release. But sometimes, the best films find their real audience on OTT — and that’s exactly what’s happening here. The Kannada fantasy action drama has now gone fully multilingual on ZEE5, streaming in Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam alongside its original Kannada version. If you haven’t given it a shot yet, now’s the time.

45 The Movie: Overview

🕯️A Story Born from Personal Loss

There’s a deeply personal layer behind 45 The Movie that most people don’t know about. Director Arjun Janya — better known as a popular Kannada singer — wrote the storyline inspired by the death of his own brother during the COVID-19 pandemic. That grief turned into a film about what happens in the 45 days after a person dies.

In Shiva Rajkumar‘s franchise of mythological and fantasy films, 45 carves out its own niche — rooted in the ancient belief from Sanatana Dharma that the 45-day window after death determines whether a soul moves on to the afterlife or is reborn. It’s a heavy premise, but wrapped in fantasy and action, it becomes something genuinely watchable.

Why it matters now: The Kannada version hit ZEE5 first — but the Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam dubs just dropped. This is the multilingual window most South Indian viewers have been waiting for.

⚡A Cast That Carries Weight

Headlining the film is Shiva Rajkumar, one of Kannada cinema’s most bankable stars with over 125 films to his name. Alongside him, Upendra — himself a legendary figure in Sandalwood — and Raj B. Shetty round out a multistarrer lineup that alone justifies the watch. The combination doesn’t always guarantee magic, but in a fantasy drama where screen presence matters most, this trio delivers.

📺Box Office Flop → OTT Quiet Hit?

Let’s be honest — 45 underperformed significantly at the box office. But that’s not uncommon for fantasy-heavy Indian films that arrive without massive marketing push. OTT platforms have a habit of rescuing exactly this kind of movie, and the multilingual rollout on ZEE5 suggests the platform sees long-tail potential here. Whether Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam audiences connect with it remains to be seen — but the ingredients are all there.
