Sony Xperia 5 IV launched with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC

Sony has added to its 2022 smartphone lineup with its latest launch, the Xperia 5 IV (read Xperia 5 Mark 4). The device would not be launched in India.

Sony also kept a few novelties including a shutter key, microSD card slot, and 3.5mm audio jack that are quite rare to find these days. The compact smartphone comes with a smaller screen but can easily compete with the other flagships out there with its big-phone features. Let’s take a look at the newly launched Xperia 5 IV in detail.

Sony Xperia 5 IV Specifications

The device packs a 6.1-inch Full-HD+ (1080×2520 pixels) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 21:9 aspect ratio, nearly 450ppi pixel density, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Sony Xperia 5 IV bears an IP68-rated body, a rectangular screen, noticeable bezels, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 system on chip. It’s interesting that Sony was not able to equip its premium Android device with the recent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. There is also 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of expandable storage on top of the dated silicon chip.

The handset boots Android 12 and houses a 5,000mAh battery with 30W wired fast-charging and unspecified wireless and reverse wireless charging support. Sony Xperia 5 IV houses full-stage stereo speakers. Users can enjoy an immersive audio experience via the 3.5mm connector, which has support for 360 Reality Audio, 360 Reality Audio Upmix, Dolby Atmos, DSEE Ultimate, and aptX Adaptive sound.
