OnePlus 15 Users in India Get ColorOS 17: What’s New and How to Update

OnePlus 15 owners in India have an early treat this week. The stable ColorOS 17 update, based on Android 17, has started rolling out to the phone ahead of its official 29 October date, according to reports and OnePlus’s own community forum. It also marks a shift for OnePlus, which is moving its Indian phones from OxygenOS to Oppo’s ColorOS platform.

Update Details

What’s New in ColorOS 17

The update brings several changes across security, AI and design.

• Security: AI Face Swap Detection watches video calls in real time and alerts you when it spots signs of an AI face swap. AI Scam Call Detection has been improved to flag AI-generated voices during calls.
• Translate: A new Translate app brings photo, voice and text translation to the bottom navigation, with support for more languages in AI-powered translation.
• AI vision and photos: OSee uses the camera’s AI to understand what you point it at, while Photos adds AI-powered organisation, batch tagging and better Memories albums.
• Mind Pilot: An agent mode lets you assign tasks such as creating documents or summarising reports, with live alerts to track progress.
• Design: A fluid design with new animations, a redesigned notification drawer, a refreshed Quick Settings panel and new Lock screen clock styles.
• Performance: A new Luminous Rendering Engine and Laminar Flow Engine aim to keep animations smooth and memory use efficient.

How to Update Your OnePlus 15

Open Settings, go to System and Updates, then tap Software Update. If the update does not appear, check again after a few hours, as rollouts often happen in phases. Keep at least 3.5GB of free storage and a full battery or charger connected before you start.

What This Means for OnePlus Users

This update is part of OnePlus’s move away from OxygenOS in India. The company is phasing out OxygenOS in favour of ColorOS, which is also used by Oppo to unify the entire OnePlus-Oppo-Realme ecosystem to save costs and focus on R&D. Owners can expect the new software to bring more AI features, though some may notice changes to familiar menus and apps.

What’s Not Confirmed

The firmware version differs slightly between reports and the update screen, so the exact build may vary by region and device. The rollout is also phased, so not every owner will see the update on the same day.
