Song Kang Is Finally Back On Variety TV — Here’s His First Stop

Comebacks after military service always come with a bit of anticipation. For Song Kang, that anticipation has just been rewarded. Song Kang has been confirmed to appear on tvN’s long-running variety show “You Quiz on the Block,” marking his first variety show appearance since completing his mandatory military service back in October last year.

What’s Confirmed So Far

The news broke via Newsen on August 14, and a tvN representative confirmed it directly: “It is true that Song Kang will be appearing on ‘You Quiz on the Block.'” However, the exact broadcast date has not yet been announced, so fans will need to wait a little longer to catch the full episode.

Song Kang’s Bigger Comeback Picture

This variety appearance lands right alongside a much-anticipated return to acting. Song Kang is set to headline tvN’s upcoming weekend drama “Four Hands, Two Sonatas,” premiering on August 29 — his first drama role in nearly two years, since Netflix’s “Sweet Home 3” wrapped up in July 2024.

Between the drama premiere and this variety show guesting, Song Kang’s post-service comeback is shaping up to be a full-scale return to the spotlight.

Why This Appearance Matters

“You Quiz on the Block” has become a go-to platform for actors making high-profile comebacks, largely because its interview-style format lets celebrities speak candidly about their careers and personal milestones rather than performing scripted content. This structure fits neatly into the broader tradition of the talk show format, which has long served as a space for public figures to reconnect with audiences after time away from the spotlight.

For an actor returning from mandatory service — a milestone every South Korean male celebrity eventually faces — a guesting slot like this offers fans a more personal, conversational reintroduction before the drama premiere takes over headlines.
