Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated comedy sequel “Son of Sardaar 2” has hit theaters today (August 1, 2025), but the advance booking numbers tell a story of cautious expectations rather than blockbuster buzz. Despite being the follow-up to the 2012 hit, the film is projected for a modest opening day collection.

Son of Sardaar 2 Advance Booking Performance: The Numbers Game

Son of Sardaar 2 sold around 27,000 tickets in the top three national chains- PVR Inox and Cinepolis- for the opening day, according to industry reports. While these figures represent dedicated fan interest, they fall short of typical sequel expectations in today’s competitive market.

Key Box Office Metrics

Parameter	Details
Advance Tickets Sold	27,000 (PVR Inox & Cinepolis)
Expected Opening Day	₹6.50 – ₹7 crore
Screen Count	2,500 – 3,000 screens
Competition	Dhadak 2, Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha
Special Offers	50% off tickets on opening day

The film’s distributors have implemented attractive promotional strategies, including buy-one-get-one offers and 50% discounts to boost initial footfall. Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur’s upcoming movie Son Of Sardaar 2 opened its advance bookings with a promotional code of 50% off on tickets to create early momentum.

Market Competition and Challenges

Son of Sardaar 2 faces significant competition from multiple releases. The Triptii Dimri-Siddhant Chaturvedi starrer will hit screens on August 1, the same day as Ajay Devgn-Mrunal Thakur headliner, referring to the clash with Dhadak 2.

The comedy sequel’s performance in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, traditionally strong markets for masala entertainers, has been lukewarm. This presents a concerning trend for a film banking on mass appeal and family audiences.

Cast and Production Details

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and produced by Devgn Films, the movie features an ensemble cast including:

Ajay Devgn (lead)
Mrunal Thakur (female lead)
Ravi Kishan, Sharat Saxena, Sanjay Mishra
Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Vindu Dara Singh

The film promises “double the comedy, double the drama, and double the madness” compared to its predecessor, positioning itself as the ultimate family entertainer.

Industry Expert Analysis

The advances are below the mark, and the first day business of Son of Sardaar 2 is expected to be in the range of Rs 6.50 crore to Rs 7.00 crore, according to box office tracking reports. This modest projection reflects the current market dynamics where content quality increasingly determines success over star power alone.

The film’s success will largely depend on word-of-mouth reviews and weekend audience response. With the comedy genre facing mixed reception in recent times, Son of Sardaar 2 needs exceptional content to overcome its advance booking challenges.

What This Means for Bollywood Sequels

The lukewarm advance booking response highlights changing audience preferences in post-pandemic cinema. Viewers are becoming more selective, making content quality paramount over franchise value. This trend affects how production houses approach sequel development and marketing strategies.
