Smartphone sales in the US market drop by 25% in Q2 2020

The global pandemic cuts the way of all the business, no matter which region it is or which market it is. For smartphone markets, it’s the same. In India, the smartphone sale decreases by around 48% in the second quarter of this year. On the other hand, the US faces a 25% drop in the sales curve.

The research by Counterpoint says in the UK region, Samsung comes out as the most preferable brand as it faces only 10% of sales drop. Just next to it is Alcatel with 11% fewer sales. For Apple and LG, there, the stats are 23% and 35% respectively. Chinese OEMs like OnePlus, Motorola, and ZTE lose their sales by more than 60% each.

In the US, the smartphone market is mainly offline and postpaid preferred. As all the markets were close from the mid of March to April due to the lockdowns, the main downfall happened at that time. For May and onwards, it started recovering. In fact, sales in June were much better than in June 2019.

On the other hand, around 26% of users switched from Android to iOS in this period and the figure is greater than the normal Android to iOS shifting. 30% of the existing Apple users replace their iPhone 6s or older models with the iPhone SE 2020.
