Simon Cowell is betting his reputation on finding the next One Direction. The music mogul returns to his roots in an all-new Netflix docuseries that promises raw drama, high stakes, and the chaotic journey of creating a boy band from scratch. But this time, there are no buzzers or judges’ panels—just Cowell’s instincts and 16 hopeful singers in Miami.
When Does The Next Act Premiere in Simon Cowell?
The six-episode docuseries releases on December 10, 2025, with all episodes dropping simultaneously for binge-watching. Netflix unveiled the official trailer on November 24, giving fans their first look at Cowell’s most personal project yet.
| Series Information | Details |

What Makes This Different?
Cowell admits there’s a “10 percent chance” of his hunt for the next big boy band going wrong, acknowledging the massive risk involved. Unlike his polished TV shows like The X Factor and America’s Got Talent, this docuseries captures the messy, unfiltered reality of talent scouting.
Cowell promises the series will be “messy, raw” and full of “chaos”, marking a significant departure from his traditional television format. The cameras follow every step—from raw open casting calls to the release of the group’s debut single—providing unprecedented behind-the-scenes access.
Cowell’s Legendary Track Record
The British music producer has discovered some of the biggest names in pop history. Through his production company Syco Entertainment, he launched One Direction, Little Mix, and Fifth Harmony—groups that have collectively sold hundreds of millions of records worldwide.
He also signed successful boy bands like Westlife, PrettyMuch, and CNCO to his record label Syco Music. Now, 14 years after creating One Direction, Cowell is attempting to replicate that lightning-in-a-bottle success.
The Search Process
Cowell hosted open-call auditions in London, Liverpool, Newcastle, and Dublin last summer, eventually bringing 16 boys to Miami for intensive training. The series is produced by Drive to Survive producer Box to Box Films, known for their gripping sports documentaries—suggesting The Next Act will deliver similar tension and drama.
