When the sharks said no to the money, one judge said yes to the founder — and that changes everything.

India’s most gripping business reality show just delivered one of its most memorable moments yet. A startup founder walked into the Shark Tank India studio hoping for investment — and walked out with something arguably more valuable: a job offer from a judge.

Entrepreneur Ganesh Balakrishnan, who appeared on Shark Tank India Season 2 with his company Flatheads Shoes, received a job offer from Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal — despite not securing any investment from the panel.

Mittal pointed out that the platform is not just for funding and business, and extended an open offer saying, “I have an open offer for you.”

Why Did the Founder Say No to the Job?

Ganesh, an IIT Bombay alumnus with an MBA who started Flatheads in 2019, declined the offer because he wished to focus on his business. It was a gutsy call — turning down an offer from one of India’s most prominent investors and angel backers. But it was also deeply human — the refusal of a founder who still believed in his dream, even when the sharks didn’t bite.

Why This Moment Matters for Indian Entrepreneurs

This episode is more than a feel-good TV moment. It highlights a quietly powerful truth: sometimes, recognition from the right person is worth more than a cheque.

Anupam Mittal is the founder and CEO of People Group and Shaadi.com, and has been an angel investor in over 250 companies in sectors including clean technology, consumer internet, mobile, healthcare, and SaaS. Wikipedia When someone with that portfolio sees potential in you — and says it publicly — that’s its own kind of validation.

Shark Tank India has become one of the most important launchpads for Indian entrepreneurs, with sharks who are self-made multi-millionaires judging business concepts and deciding whether to invest their own money to help market and mentor each contestant. Wikipedia
