Seyon Shoot Begins: Sivakarthikeyan and Kamal Haasan Unite Again for a Raw Madurai Action Drama Eyeing Pongal 2027

Tamil cinema just got a major update — and it’s one fans have been waiting for. Seyon, the highly anticipated collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and producer Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI), has officially gone on floors. Cameras started rolling on May 18, 2026, and the buzz around this project is already through the roof.

Seyon — All Key Details

A Powerful Beginning in Madurai

Taking to social media, the makers unveiled pictures from the sets of Seyon, announcing the commencement of the shoot with the message “A Powerful Beginning.” The film is set in a village backdrop in Madurai, and the rustic visuals from the launch event have already drawn massive attention online.

Sivakarthikeyan said at the launch, “Seyon begins today. It’ll turn out superbly. Madurai has a certain power, and we’ll showcase that same power in the film as well. We are not trying to make a film like Virumaandi, but we will try to recreate the elements that people loved in that film.”

That’s quite a statement — and if you know Tamil cinema, you know how huge those shoes are. Virumaandi is widely considered one of Kamal Haasan’s most celebrated rural action dramas, so the comparison itself sets the tone for what Seyon is reaching for.

Kamal–SK Reunion and the Pongal Race

Sivakarthikeyan and Kamal Haasan are joining hands for the second time as actor and producer for Seyon. This reunion alone makes the film one of the most watched projects in Tamil cinema right now.

Reports by Lets Cinema suggest that Seyon is aiming for a theatrical release during Pongal 2027. Additionally, online reports indicate that Thalaivar173, starring Rajinikanth and co-produced by Kamal Haasan, may shift its release from Pongal 2027 to the summer of 2027 instead, potentially clearing the path for Seyon to own the Pongal slot.

Star Cast and SK’s Upcoming Pipeline

Seyon has officially roped in Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead, marking her second Tamil film after Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha. The pairing is fresh and exciting — and Bhagyashri’s casting adds a compelling new face to the Tamil screen.

Looking ahead, SK is expected to collaborate with Ramkumar Balakrishnan, best known for Parking, on a new project rumored to feature Dileep in a key role. The Amaran star also has a project lined up with director Venkat Prabhu.
