Serie A ban green kits from 2022-23 season

Serie A have prohibited clubs from being able to wear green kits from the 22/23 season. The decision has been postponed following clubs asking for time to alter their current shirt designs to cope with the drastic changes to their current patterns.

Sassuolo are one of the worst-hit teams from this decision since their primary colours feature green and black. It is yet unclear whether they will have to ditch the green completely, or if they will be able to make do with a more black-dominant kit with green accents.

The rule will apply to shorts and socks as well, along with the jersey and if more than three colours are used, one of the colours must be prominent throughout the kit. Other clubs in Italy such as Atalanta and Lazio had away kits that were primarily green in colour. The rule change will no longer permit the clubs from wearing green shirts on the pitch anymore.

The main reason behind the Italian league taking this decision is to avoid players blending into the background. The concern primarily rises from the broadcast sponsors of the Italian board, who want the players to be completely visible on the field for people watching at home.

Numerous Italian clubs have taken up a green away design during the years gone by. Juventus donned a green kit during the 14/15 season. Milan have also done the same, unveiling a dark green kit in comparison to their usual red and black.
