September 2026 on Netflix India: 26 Films, 4 Series and One Big Throwback

September was a big month for desi viewers. Netflix added 26 films and 4 series, and the throwbacks arrived alongside fresh Originals. If your watchlist looks like a tangled mess, this guide sorts it out.

The headline is the return of 14 Excel Entertainment classics on September 21. Around them came two new Hindi Originals, a first-of-its-kind Indian sitcom, and the return of a fan-favourite talk show. Details are based on the monthly roundup from What’s on Netflix.

The Month’s Biggest Netflix Releases

The Movies Worth Your Time

Dhamaal 4 (Sept 3) is the fourth chapter of Indra Kumar’s comedy franchise. Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Riteish Deshmukh run from pirates while chasing buried treasure. You can start here without having seen the earlier films, because each one stands alone.

Gandhari (Sept 3) reunites Taapsee Pannu with writer Kanika Dhillon of Haseen Dillruba. Pannu plays a mother who loses her daughter at a train platform and is left searching blind in an unfamiliar city. The reviewer found the story a bit scattered, so go in expecting a gripping premise rather than a perfect script.

GDN (Sept 3) has R. Madhavan playing inventor G. D. Naidu. It’s an easy pick for biopic fans curious about India’s industrial history.

Korean Kanakaraju (Sept 3) is a horror comedy with a fun hook. A drunk man is possessed by the ghost of a murdered Korean gangster and gets pulled between Andhra Pradesh and Seoul.

Vishwanath & Sons (Sept 10) stars Suriya in a drama about a surrogate baby with a medical condition and the search for his mother. It was also one of the titles that made Netflix’s weekly Top 10 for non-English films.

Lust Stories 3 (Sept 18) brings back the anthology franchise with four short films from Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj. The cast includes Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Apte and the real-life couple Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth.

Baby Do Die Do (Sept 22) is a stylish revenge thriller. Huma Qureshi plays a deaf woman who becomes an assassin to find her twin sister’s killer. It’s also the first film from the production house she started with her brother Saqib Saleem.

Ohh My Dog (Sept 30) is the quirky one. Two parallel stories follow a boy searching for his dog in Assam and a clever dog rescuing his owner in Patna, with Pankaj Tripathi in the cast.

The Throwback Shelf: Excel Entertainment Returns

On September 21, fifteen years of films from the studio behind many modern Bollywood favourites came back to Netflix:

Weekend tip: Start with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Dil Dhadakne Do. Both are Zoya Akhtar’s travel-flavoured comedy-dramas, and they work well for a family evening.

New Series and Shows

• Chumbak (Sept 10) is Netflix India’s first Original sitcom, created by TV-writing duo Jamnadas Majethia and Aatish Kapadia. It has 16 episodes, the first eight on Sept 10 and the rest on Oct 1, starring Neena Gupta.
• The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 5 (Sept 26) is back with new episodes every Saturday, kicking off with the Drishyam 3 cast.
• I-Popstar (Sept 29) is a music contest where artists perform entirely original songs. Neha Kakkar is a judge, and it airs Tuesday to Thursday with a November finale.
• Dhee: Double Impact (Sept 19) is the 21st season of the Telugu dance reality show, with new episodes on weekends and a winner in December.
• India’s Got Latent is still dropping episodes every other Friday.

One more for comedy fans: Zakir Khan: Papa Yaar (Sept 18) is his first Netflix special, about his relationship with his father. Fans may not see him live for a while, since he announced a multi-year break from live comedy.

What This Month Tells Us?

Netflix India is clearly playing two games at once. It’s investing in regional-language films dubbed across five or more languages, and it’s refilling its library with nostalgic hits that get people clicking “play” on a lazy night. It’s a smart mix.
