Sarvam AI unveiled Sarvam Kaze on February 17, 2026, at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi—India’s first AI-powered smart glasses designed and built entirely in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the first person to try the device, testing its real-time response capabilities while touring the India AI Expo. Co-founder Pratyush Kumar shared photos on X, declaring: “The first person to try them? The Prime Minister.”

The wearable marks Sarvam AI’s hardware debut, scheduled for May 2026 retail launch, positioning Kaze as a Made-in-India alternative to Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and competing with Reliance Jio’s emerging wearable offerings.

Moving Intelligence from Screens to Reality

According to co-founder Pratyush Kumar, “Sarvam Kaze moves intelligence from the screen to the real world. You wear it. It listens, understands, responds, and captures what you see. And you can build custom experiences for it with the Sarvam platform.” This philosophy positions Kaze as fundamentally different from smartphone-based AI requiring users to look at screens rather than engaging naturally with their environment.

The device runs on Sarvam’s in-house AI models rather than relying on cloud-based processing from American tech ecosystems—a strategic differentiation emphasizing data sovereignty and local processing. Sarvam Edge AI focuses on running models directly on devices without cloud servers, ensuring instant responses without internet connectivity delays while keeping user data on-device for improved privacy and security.

Competing in the Smart Glasses Market

Sarvam Kaze enters a competitive but evolving space currently dominated by Meta’s Ray-Ban collaboration, which reportedly sold over 7 million units in 2025 alone. The category has proven there’s real audience demand for voice-driven AI assistance, hands-free capture, and screen-light interaction, making timing favorable for Indian alternatives.

Reliance Jio has also started showcasing smart wearable glasses, indicating the Indian market recognizes strategic importance of this emerging category. If Kaze can match core features like voice AI and audiovisual capture while differentiating through local AI services and regional language support, it could carve out a meaningful niche in India’s massive consumer electronics market.

IndiaAI Mission Context

Sarvam AI is one of 12 organizations selected by the Indian government to develop AI models trained on Indian datasets under the IndiaAI Mission, launched in March 2024 with ₹10,372 crore outlay. The mission has onboarded over 38,000 GPUs supporting startups and researchers, demonstrating institutional backing for indigenous AI development.

Alongside Kaze, Sarvam AI unveiled 11 other AI solutions recently including Sarvam Akshar for document digitization, Sarvam Studio for multilingual content creation, and Saaras V3 speech recognition optimized for Indian languages. The company is also launching a Chat feature this week to bring intelligence into physical world interactions.
