Samsung Gallery OneDrive Integration Ending: Key Dates for 2026

Samsung Gallery’s OneDrive integration will wrap up on June 30, 2026. This shift changes how Galaxy users handle their cloud backups.

This means millions of users need to move their photos and videos away from Microsoft’s cloud service. Samsung is pivoting to its own internal storage solutions and partnering with third-party services.

Essentially, Samsung is completely detaching the native Gallery app from the long-existing OneDrive sync feature. We’ve seen hints of this for months, but now the deadline is approaching for anyone who depends on this for automatic media backups.

If you don’t transfer your data, you could lose the seamless cloud experience that’s been part of the Samsung ecosystem since 2021.

Understanding the Migration Timeline and Data Impact

The main worry for users is the exact timeline for when the service will end. Samsung has confirmed that while sync services will keep working until June 30, 2026, they’ll start phasing out support features in the weeks leading up to that date.

If you don’t disconnect or migrate your data before the deadline, you might run into sync errors. In some cases, accessing your media files could be tricky if the link between the two services breaks ahead of schedule.

Not everyone is happy about this change. Many power users believe that the deep integration between Samsung and Microsoft provided the most dependable cross-platform backup solution.

But really, Samsung is focusing on its own data management framework to have better control over the user experience and lessen reliance on external cloud providers.

Why This Matters for Your Digital Workflow

This seems to reflect a trend where tech giants are pulling back from cross-company integrations to keep users within their own ecosystems. If you’ve built up a library in the Samsung-OneDrive setup, you’ll need to take action to ensure nothing gets left behind during this transition.

We suggest being proactive. Start by checking your current storage in the Gallery settings menu.

If you’re nearing your limit, think about using a local backup solution or a third-party cloud provider that offers more flexibility. This shift away from OneDrive signals that Samsung is gearing up to launch a more comprehensive, self-contained cloud service that could eventually challenge bigger players in the technology sector.

Still, users will miss the convenience of the current system. By the time June 30 arrives, users should have set up a new workflow to avoid any disruption to their daily photo-taking routines. (Source: OpenAI Blog)
