Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Spotted: Samsung didn’t announce it. A Reddit user just walked past one on a retail shelf.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 wasn’t supposed to be seen yet. Samsung has its Unpacked event confirmed for July 22 in London — but someone beat them to the reveal. A Reddit user spotted and photographed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 on display at a Samsung retailer in South Korea, alongside the Fold 8 Ultra and Flip 8. If authentic, this marks the first time Samsung has displayed unannounced foldable units in an official store before a launch event.

And the specs that have leaked alongside it? They’re genuinely exciting.

What’s Actually New Here

A Completely Different Form Factor

This is the biggest design shift in the Fold line’s history. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 moves away from the tall, narrow book-style design to a wider, shorter passport-style form factor with the inner display in a 4:3 aspect ratio — closer to a tablet than previous Fold generations. The inner screen is nearly square, making multitasking and side-by-side apps more practical. This also positions it more directly as a rival to Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone.

Impossibly Thin and Light

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is rumoured to measure just 9.7mm thick when folded and only 4.5mm when unfolded, weighing around 200 grams — remarkable for a device with two displays and a hinge. For context, that’s roughly the same weight as a standard flagship smartphone, despite the added hardware.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — Custom Tuned

The Fold 8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with Samsung’s “for Galaxy” in-house customisations, paired with 12GB of RAM and a starting configuration of 256GB of storage. This is the same chip class powering the Galaxy S26 Ultra, so performance headroom is not a concern.

Camera: Dual 50MP Rear Setup

The Fold 8 opts for a cleaner dual-camera system rather than a triple array — a 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide on the back, with dual 10MP selfie shooters covering both the cover and inner displays. The Ultra model adds a telephoto lens if that’s a dealbreaker for you. We’ve covered how Samsung’s camera systems stack up in our best camera phones in India right now roundup.

One UI 9 on Android 17

Launching with Android 17 and One UI 9 straight out of the box is a meaningful software freshness advantage — and Samsung’s track record on update longevity for its flagship Z series has been strong.

Fold 8 vs Fold 8 Ultra: Which One Should You Consider?

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra introduces a brand-new form factor with a 5.4-inch secondary display and a foldable 7.8-inch main display in a 4:3 aspect ratio, while buyers of the smaller model will have to make do with two rear cameras instead of three and a slightly smaller battery.

Feature	Z Fold 8	Z Fold 8 Ultra
Inner Display	7.6″	7.8″
Rear Cameras	50MP + 50MP (dual)	Triple camera
Battery	4,800mAh	Larger
Price (US, leaked)	~$1,899	~$2,099

For most buyers, the standard Fold 8’s new wide form factor is the more interesting device this year. The Ultra is for power users who want every spec maxed out.

India Pricing: What to Expect

No India pricing has been confirmed yet. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series will be priced above $2,000 in the U.S., with the standard Fold 8 at $1,899 and the Ultra at $2,099. Applying typical India import and tax markups, expect the Fold 8 to land somewhere north of ₹1,60,000 at launch. Memory shortage conditions are being blamed for the price climb — a trend we’ve tracked across multiple device categories this year. Bottom Line

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is shaping up to be Samsung’s most significant Fold redesign yet — not just a spec bump, but a genuine rethink of what a foldable should look like. A wider 4:3 inner display, sub-200g weight, 4.9mm unfolded thickness, and the latest Snapdragon chip in a One UI 9 package is a compelling brief. The real answers land at Unpacked on July 22 — we’ll have full coverage from the moment Samsung goes official.
