Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a remarkable 123 in the third T20I against Australia, helping the hosts cross the 200-run mark for the third straight game. He turned things around from 81-3 in 10.3 overs to 222-3 at the end of the innings. In comparison, the rest of the team was only able to score 99 runs including extras. 

In the process, Gaikwad became the ninth-ever Indian to score a T20I century, with the last player being Yashasvi Jaiswal. The batter has had a remarkable tournament, after scoring a half-century against Australia in their previous game.

The first ever Indian batter to score a century in the shorter format of the game. Here is the complete list of players to have scored a century in T20I games for the national team: 

  1. Suresh Raina vs South Africa
  2. Rohit Sharma vs South Africa
  3. KL Rahul vs West Indies
  4. Deepak Hooda vs Ireland 
  5. Suryakumar Yadav vs England 
  6. Virat Kohli vs Afghanistan
  7. Shubman Gill vs New Zealand
  8. Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Nepal 
  9. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Australia 

Gaikwad scored a century in 57 deliveries, and although it is one of the fastest, it isn’t close to Rohit Sharma’s record. The Indian skipper scored a century in 35 deliveries against Sri Lanka in 2017. He also holds the record for the most centuries with four to his name.
