After four years of anticipation, Euphoria is officially over. And in true Sam Levinson fashion, it didn’t go gently. The Season 3 finale aired on May 31, 2026 — and was immediately confirmed as the series finale. Four major characters didn’t survive the ending.\

The Euphoria Final Chapter

Titled In God We Trust, the 90-minute series finale of Euphoria Season 3 came as a shocker after claiming the lives of four major characters.

Character	Fate	Played By
Rue Bennett	Dies — fentanyl overdose	Zendaya
Nate Jacobs	Dies	Jacob Elordi
Laurie	Dies	—
Alamo	Dies	—
Cassie & Maddy	Survive — bound by dark secret	Sydney Sweeney & Alexa Demie
Ali	Survives — seeks to honour Rue	Colman Domingo

How Rue’s Story Ended

Throughout the series, Zendaya’s Emmy-winning performance as Rue Bennett served as the emotional anchor of the show. Season 3 saw Rue navigating a drug underworld while secretly cooperating as an informant for the DEA.

In the finale, the ruthless drug lord Alamo hands Rue a bottle of Percocet, seemingly to help with her injuries. Trusting the wrong person, Rue takes the pills at Ali’s apartment and ends up overdosing in her sleep. Ali finds her unresponsive the next morning and crushes a pill to discover it was heavily laced with fentanyl.

It’s a devastating, painfully realistic ending — a direct echo of the fentanyl crisis that has claimed hundreds of thousands of real lives across America. Rue’s story was never going to end neatly, but this hit differently.

The Survivors and Their Burden

Following Nate’s horrific death, Cassie and Maddy are left traumatised. The two former best friends make a pact to move in together and keep the dark truth of Nate’s death a permanent secret from the world.

The Haunting Final Image

The series closes on a deeply spiritual note. Ali travels to a rural family that Rue visited during the Season 3 premiere. Sitting at their dinner table, he honours her memory. In a vision, Rue appears at the table, smiling — symbolically suggesting that in death, Rue finally found peace.

It’s the kind of ending that stays with you. Not happy, not hopeless — just profoundly human.
