She is today one of Indian television’s most celebrated faces — a Bigg Boss 14 winner, a beloved actress, a new mother of twin daughters. But long before any of that, Rubina Dilaik was a young girl from Himachal Pradesh being told she’d never make it as a protagonist. Her recent revelation is a powerful reminder that the entertainment industry can be brutal — and that surviving it takes more than just talent.

What Did Rubina Dilaik Reveal?

In a candid interview with SCREEN, Rubina opened up about the harsh side of the industry. She admitted that she never had confidence in her looks when she first entered the profession, saying she struggled a lot to embrace herself.

When she came into the industry, she carried baby fat. “People used to call me Himachali seb,” she recalled, adding that people would comment on her baby fat and baby chin.

But the sharpest blow came from someone in a position of power. Rubina recalled a director who once told her directly: “Your face is so negative, you should do negative roles. I don’t think anybody will cast you in a positive role or as a protagonist.” At the time, she was also wearing braces, which added to her insecurities. “I thought maybe I was not enough. There were a lot of maybes,” she confessed.

The Turning Point — Owning Her Uniqueness

What changed everything was a shift in perspective. Rubina eventually realized that her uniqueness was her greatest strength. She noted that if she had to look like everyone else, she would not be Rubina Dilaik. “If I cannot acknowledge that, I will not be able to give that to my daughters. It took a great deal to overcome that,” she added.

That journey of self-acceptance wasn’t just personal — it became deeply important to her as a mother. Rubina, who recently became a mother to twin daughters Edhaa and Jeeva, noted that her journey was important not just for her career, but as a parent.

On the work front, Rubina is now set to return to the sets of Khatron Ke Khiladi with Season 15, alongside Jasmin Bhasin, with whom she revealed she shares a cordial relationship.
