Just as Argentina march through the World Cup knockouts, a storm is brewing off the pitch. French investigative journalist Romain Molina has announced a forthcoming exposé he claims could reveal one of the biggest scandals covered up by FIFA in recent years — this time targeting the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
What Romain Molina Has Said
Taking to X, Molina wrote that he was preparing a major investigation into what he called the “mafia of Argentine football,” teasing the release for the following morning. The journalist, who has previously reported on governance issues at the Confederation of African Football and misconduct allegations in Mali basketball, has built a reputation for high-profile exposés — though the full details of this report have not yet been published or independently verified.
The Bigger Picture
Molina’s claims land amid an already turbulent period for the AFA. According to Argentine newspaper La Nación, the FBI is separately investigating the federation over alleged fraud and money laundering, examining how the AFA president Claudio Tapia oversaw more than $300 million moving through the American financial system.
