Rohit Roy has never been one to sugarcoat his opinions, and his latest chat proves it. The actor, who’s spent decades bouncing between TV sets and film sets, dropped a blunt take on why he believes the two industries live in completely different worlds — and it’s got everyone talking.
What Did Rohit Roy Actually Say?
Speaking on the Kindle Cast YouTube channel, Rohit didn’t hold back when asked if Indian television has traded creativity for professionalism. His answer? Television, in his words, is disposable content — watched once and forgotten, unlike a film that people revisit for years.
He didn’t stop at content quality either. Rohit went on to compare the behavior of TV actors versus film stars, saying Bollywood actors carry themselves with a certain polish that’s often missing on the small screen.
Rohit Roy: Key Highlights
| Topic | Rohit Roy’s Take |
|---|---|
| TV Content | Called it a “dustbin medium” — forgettable, repetitive, low on originality |
| Film vs TV Actors | Film actors have more “grace, dignity, and style” in public |
| TV Actor Behavior | Said gatherings of TV actors often lack composure and class |
| Analogy Used | Compared it to playing for India vs a state Ranji Trophy team |
| Exception | Shows like Swabhimaan remain memorable despite his criticism |
Why This Comparison Isn’t New
The Bollywood-vs-television debate has simmered in the Indian entertainment industry for years, with actors often crossing over between mediums yet rarely erasing the perceived hierarchy. Television, per Wikipedia’s overview of television in India, remains one of the most widely consumed entertainment mediums in the country — which makes Rohit’s blunt criticism even more striking, given the sheer scale of the audience he’s talking about.
A Long Career Across Both Worlds
Rohit Roy has flitted between the two mediums for over three decades, which is exactly why his comments carry weight — he’s lived both realities. If you’re catching up on how India’s entertainment landscape keeps evolving, our coverage on technosports.co.in breaks down similar industry shifts and celebrity takes worth following.
The Bigger Picture
Whether or not you agree with Rohit’s “dustbin medium” label, his comments reopen a long-standing conversation: does television get a fair shot at being taken seriously as an art form, or is the stigma here to stay? For now, it seems even TV’s own veterans aren’t convinced.
