Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Gets Sharpest Look Yet Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday, and It Came From a Popcorn Box

Robert Downey Jr. spent over a decade as Iron Man. Now he’s the man behind the mask on the other side. The latest high-definition look at his Doctor Doom didn’t come from a trailer or a poster. It came from a microwave popcorn brand.

Doctor Doom : Overview

What the New Art Shows?

Pop Secret’s limited-edition Doomsday packaging features Doom in his trademark green hooded cloak, fastened to heavy silver armor at the shoulders. He stands stoic against a green stained-glass-style backdrop. The standout detail is the sharpness. The render is clean, and his armor looks greener than in any Doom image seen so far. The promotion also includes Fandango rewards and a New York City sweepstakes.

The Road to This Reveal

Doom’s marketing has unfolded in stages:

Fans remember that the four teaser previews attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash mostly focused on the heroes, not the villain. The costume and collectibles from Hot Toys and Iron Studios have filled in plenty of detail since.

Will More Doom Images Arrive?

Almost certainly. The D23 trailer isn’t the final one, and a last trailer should land in the coming weeks, likely with Doom front and center. A “Silence Your Phones” theater promo released this week already showed him using his powers rendered with the Kirby Krackle, a first in live action. Downey also shared an Endgame Encore poster of Doom sitting in a cinema seat, with a popcorn-filled nano gauntlet under the words “Doom Shall Attend.”

Why It Matters?

With under three months to go, every new image builds anticipation for a film that pits Doom against the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men and more. If you’re catching up on the franchise, Doctor Doom’s page on Wikipedia covers the character’s comic origins.
