A Life Lived In His Father’s Shadow, And Beyond It
Suneil was born during an unusual moment — while his parents traveled to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, making him its youngest delegate before he’d even taken his first breath. He later trained in Wing Chun in Hong Kong for his directorial debut Master, and carried forward the family’s cinematic legacy by presenting Dev Anand’s iconic Guide at Cannes in 2008.
Though his own films didn’t achieve the commercial heights of his father’s, Suneil remained a steady presence behind the scenes, safeguarding Navketan Films’ history and Dev Anand’s enduring body of work.
His passing marks the end of a direct link to one of Hindi cinema’s golden eras, and fans across generations are sharing tributes to both father and son today.
