Reliance Jio 5G Boosts Battery Life by 20-40%, Claims Company

As part of the Q2 FY25 earnings call, Reliance Jio shared some key updates about its “True 5G” service, which has received some major enhancements with the aim of improving user experience. One of the points of discussion was that only Jio is providing 5G on a standalone (SA) network architecture. Beyond that, this allows gigabit speeds and lowers power consumption in the device, resulting in 20 to 40 percent longer battery life.

Reliance Jio 5G Network Boosts Device Battery Life by 20-40%, Claims Company

Kiran Thomas, the President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, explained that Jio’s network utilizes a unique blend of spectrum assets and advanced technical features. This includes carrier aggregation, which enhances network capacity and speed, as well as the standalone (SA) architecture, which differs from traditional 5G networks that rely on existing 4G infrastructure. Jio’s SA 5G network is designed from the ground up, delivering improved performance, greater efficiency, and a more stable connection.

Among the excellent attractions of the Jio network is its spectrum management, which, for devices like smartphones, should save a lot of power. Since the communication itself uses less energy with the provision of energy-efficient spectrum resources, it contributes towards the reduction of handset power consumption. Then there’s another technological advancement, Voice Over New Radio (VoNR).

It routes voice calls through the 5G network as opposed to the previous 4G one, providing benefits like improved voice quality, faster call setup times, and an overall smoother performance. VoNR will become the default mode for devices operating on its 5G network, and Jio is collaborating closely with leading handset manufacturers in this regard.

In addition, Jio’s 5G network provides highly accurate location data, utilizing algorithms such as the angle of arrival, which allows for GPS-like accuracy within 10 meters. This improvement benefits navigation and hyperlocal applications while also preserving battery life. Furthermore, Jio employs advanced time division duplex (TDD) techniques to manage interference across multiple spectrum bands, ensuring optimal network capacity and a smooth user experience, even in high-density areas.
