Quick take: The Jio Platforms IPO opened for bidding on October 21, 2026, and runs until October 23. At up to ₹30,213 crore, it is set to become the largest IPO India has seen. Early reports from X suggest demand was strong on day one, but official figures will settle that story.
A Decade After Free Data Changed India
In 2016, Jio started handing out cheap mobile data, and a country got online almost overnight. Ten years later, the company behind that revolution is asking ordinary Indians to own a piece of it.
Investor interest is high. X’s own trending summary says the issue was fully subscribed within about 100 minutes of opening, with overall subscription at roughly 1.65 times by midday. That summary is generated from social posts, so treat it as an early signal and check the exchange data for confirmed figures.

Why This IPO Is a Record
At the top of the band, the issue works out to about 8 per cent above the previous record held by Hyundai Motor India, whose ₹27,858.75 crore offer came in 2024. There is no offer-for-sale component, so every rupee raised goes to the company, not to selling shareholders.
Where Will the Money Go?
Most of the proceeds are meant to repay about ₹27,500 crore of borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom subsidiary. The rest is earmarked for general corporate purposes.
The Business Behind the Numbers
| Metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| FY26 consolidated revenue | ₹1,46,885 crore (up 14.6%) |
| FY26 EBITDA | About ₹76,255 crore |
| Q1 FY27 consolidated profit | ₹7,764 crore (up 9.2% year on year) |
| Reliance’s stake before the IPO | 66.43% |
What Investors Should Weigh
| The Case For | The Case Against |
|---|---|
| Scale, with more than 500 million subscribers | A very large valuation leaves less room for error |
| Strong profits and a growing broadband and cloud push | Reliance Retail’s prepaid distribution made up about 77% of revenue in FY26 |
| Proceeds reduce debt | Grey market premium is unofficial and can disappear |
Grey market chatter earlier this month suggested a premium of roughly ₹206 to ₹223 per share. That number is informal and doesn’t guarantee a listing gain.
Our Take
This is more than a big IPO. It is a test of whether the market will pay a premium for India’s digital backbone. If you are applying, read the red herring prospectus on the SEBI and exchange websites first. This article is for information only and is not investment advice.
