Indian esports is heading to Japan as Reckoning Esports and GodLike Esports secure qualification for the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League (PUACL) 2026. The tournament takes place March 28-29 at Yokohama BUNTAI, featuring 16 teams competing for a $200,000 prize pool.

Both teams earned their spots through separate but equally competitive routes across India’s official Pokémon UNITE circuit, executed by Skyesports in partnership with The Pokémon Company.

Two Different Paths to Victory

Reckoning Esports claimed India’s primary PUACL slot by winning the Pokémon UNITE Asia Champions League 2026 – India League, a $20,000 multi-stage online tournament featuring ten of India’s top esports organizations.

The league followed a circuit-based group stage across five matchdays before culminating in a King of the Hill Playoffs format. In a thrilling grand final, Reckoning Esports edged past GodLike Esports 3-2, securing their championship and Japan qualification.

Jeet “Swifty” Kundra from Reckoning Esports reflected on the victory: “Winning the India League after such a long and demanding season means a lot to us. The format tested consistency and mental strength, and representing India at the Asia Champions League is an honour.”

Despite their narrow India League final defeat, GodLike Esports bounced back at the Pokémon UNITE Winter Tournament 2026 – India (PUWT). Unlike the India League, the PUWT featured open qualifiers, allowing teams from across the country to compete alongside established organizations.

GodLike put together a dominant run, cruising through the single-elimination bracket and drawing on their experience when it mattered most. Their 3-0 grand final victory against Orange Flag secured India’s second PUACL slot, completing a strong comeback story.

Om “Scepter” Gore from GodLike Esports said: “Losing the India League final was tough, but it pushed us to come back stronger. Qualifying for the PUACL after that run feels incredibly rewarding, and we’re determined to represent India well on the global stage.”

Emerging Talent and Tournament Highlights

The PUWT showcased emerging Indian talent alongside established organizations. Revenant XSpark, the 2025 PUWT champions, were knocked out in semifinals by underdog side Orange Flag—one of the tournament’s standout stories.

Orange Flag’s impressive run ultimately ended in the grand final against GodLike’s experience and execution, but their performance demonstrated the depth of talent in India’s Pokémon UNITE scene.

Chetan “Kronten” Chandgude, Founder and CEO of GodLike Esports, emphasized the significance: “Qualifying for the PUACL is a massive moment for us and for the entire Indian gaming community. We are eager to take our ‘GodLike’ energy to the world stage and show everyone what Indian esports is truly capable of.”

Both teams will compete among 16 squads at Yokohama BUNTAI for the championship title and their share of the $200,000 prize pool. This marks an important milestone for Indian Pokémon UNITE esports returning to the international competitive stage.
