Real Madrid Working on Deal to Sign Yan Diomande as €100m Bid Rejected

One of the most exciting teenagers in world football is at the centre of a major transfer saga. Real Madrid are pushing hard to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with the 19-year-old now opening the door to a move to the Santiago Bernabéu. Positive talks have taken place over personal contract terms, but Los Blancos must first reach an agreement with Leipzig after their opening €100m package proposal was turned away.

Who is Yan Diomande?

Yan Diomande was born on 14 November 2006 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He plays as a winger for RB Leipzig, wearing the number 49 shirt.

His rise to prominence has been nothing short of extraordinary. This time last year, Diomande’s entire senior career amounted to half a dozen starts for Leganés at the back end of last season as they were relegated from LaLiga. He scored in two of those six games, against Espanyol and Valladolid.

Diomande joined Leipzig in July 2025 for approximately €20 million from Spanish side CD Leganés. In the span of roughly 12 months, he has gone from a promising La Liga prospect to a transfer target for the biggest club in world football.

On 6 December, he netted a hat-trick in a 6–0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt, becoming the second youngest player to achieve this feat in Bundesliga history behind only Walter Bechtold in 1965.

By October 2025, just a few months into his Leipzig tenure, Diomande earned his first senior call-up to the Ivory Coast national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

In the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, Yan Diomande has recorded 12 goals, 8 assists, 2,476 minutes, and an average FotMob rating of 7.61, alongside 2 yellow cards.

Strengths & Playing Style

According to WhoScored, Diomande’s key strengths include dribbling (very strong), key passes (strong), passing (strong), and finishing (strong), while aerial duels, crossing, and defensive contribution are noted as areas for development. He likes to dribble and does not dive into tackles.

Real Madrid’s Pursuit: The Full Story

TEAMtalk confirms that Real Madrid have joined the pursuit by offering €100m — made up of €90m plus €10m in add-ons — and have already made their intentions clear to Diomande’s representatives.

RB Leipzig have rejected an £85.4m bid from Real Madrid for Yan Diomande. The offer was for an initial fee of £76.9m, plus £8.5m in add-ons.

Leipzig are seeking up to €130 million for the 19-year-old and have repeatedly stressed they are under no pressure to sell this summer. His contract with Leipzig runs until June 2030, which gives the German club significant leverage in any negotiation.

Diomande Opens the Door to Madrid

Yan Diomande is becoming increasingly frustrated with PSG over the lack of progress in their negotiations with RB Leipzig and is now warming to the idea of joining Real Madrid instead if a breakthrough is not reached soon.

Sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the Ivorian winger remains determined to play under Luis Enrique, with PSG still his first-choice destination. However, after weeks of discussions without a significant breakthrough, patience is beginning to wear thin.

Sources indicate Diomande would be prepared to consider a move to the Santiago Bernabéu should Madrid reach an agreement with RB Leipzig.

Diomande had previously indicated a preference to move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer and had already agreed a contract with them until 2031, but Leipzig will only sell for an exceptional fee.

Competition for Diomande

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City had all made fresh approaches to Diomande’s representatives to ensure the player remained aware that their interest was still very much alive. Despite those enquiries, Diomande’s camp informed each of the Premier League clubs that PSG remained his priority, but they also told them they would keep them informed, thus not completely discounting their interest.

Liverpool have also expressed an interest in winger Diomande but aren’t willing to pay more than £85m — a fee that would dwarf the Premier League’s record transfer for a teenager, surpassing the £58.9m Manchester United agreed to pay to sign Leny Yoro from Lille in the summer of 2024.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Yan Diomande has reportedly already rejected approaches from English top clubs, leaving only PSG as a real competitor.

Real Madrid’s Squad Context

Madrid have been active in this transfer window following the return of José Mourinho as manager, with Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Marc Cucurella all signed to reshape their squad.

Head scout Juni Calafat has identified Diomande as a suitable target if Vinicius Junior or Rodrygo leave the Bernabéu this summer.

A player swap has also been discussed. Madrid are exploring the possibility of including players within the deal, with Franco Mastantuono’s name discussed — a player Leipzig has admired previously. The German club also has a continuing interest in Brahim Díaz, who could theoretically replace Diomande if he were to depart.
