Real Madrid crowned 2023 FIFA World Cup winners with a 5-3 win over Al Hilal

Real Madrid have won the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup in a 5-3 win over Al Hilal in the finals. The Spanish giants have won their 100th trophy in the process, a remarkable feat for the most successful club in Europe.

There was no shortage of goals from the two sides, and the scoring started in the 13th minute itself. Vinicius Jr slid the ball past Abdullah Al Mayouf to get things going before Federico Valverde doubled their lead with a stunning shot from the edge of the box.

The midfielder built further on his reputation of scoring eye-catching goals. He has now reached the 10-goal mark for the season, as predicted by Carlo Ancelotti. And in doing so, he has saved the Italian’s coaching licence.

Moussa Marega pulled one back for the Saudi Arabian club before halftime, and more goals followed in the second period.

Karim Benzema joined the scoresheet in the second half, while Valverde and Vinicius made it two to their name. Luciano Vietto was able to score a brace to provide some hope for his side.

But in the end, it was too little to overcome the deficit that was created by Los Blancos.

In spite of the win, further questions will be asked of Real Madrid’s defence after their performance last night. The team has very often outscored their opponents on big margins. But, they will need to fortify things at the back if they are to replicate the success from last season.
