Raptor Lake CPUs early benchmarks show it to be slower than Alder Lake’s flagship Core i9-12900K

Hardware investigator Komachi Ensaka has discovered what looks to be the first Raptor Lake CPU benchmark. Even though Alder Lake was only released lately, Intel is already planning for its replacement.

The 13th Generation Raptor Lake chip was identified as a “Genuine Intel 0000” CPU by BAPCo’s Crossmark program, hence its specific model is unclear for the time being. As a result, we should treat the specs with caution, as it is common for software to misreport unreleased hardware.

The Raptor Lake CPU, according to the study, has 24 cores and 32 logical cores. The Core i9-12900K, for example, has eight Golden Cove cores and eight Gracemont cores for a total of 16 cores and 24 logical cores. It’s conceivable that the core count is due to a reporting error in the program, but it’s more probable that Intel has increased Raptor Lake’s E-core count.

There have been suspicions that Intel may include additional Gracement cores in Raptor Lake, and the report on the mysterious Raptor Lake CPU reveals an 8P+16E architecture.

It’s hardly unexpected that the individual or firm who tested the Raptor Lake CPU removed the submission from Crossmark’s database. Indeed, Intel has a long history of collaboration with Business Applications Performance Corporation (BAPCo), the business that developed the Crossmark benchmark. We don’t utilize this benchmark in our testing, so keep that in mind if you’re looking at AMD test results.

Given the period, it’s also worth noting that the Raptor Lake CPU is a preliminary engineering sample. This means that clock speeds haven’t been decided, and software isn’t likely to be tuned for it, as we saw with Alder Lake. This early sample is most likely running at decreased fixed clock rates.

Because BapCo’s software isn’t included in our testing suite, we’ll use HotHardware’s findings to compare. The Core i9-12900K was coupled with DDR5-4800 RAM, which was also utilized in the Crossmark submission. As a consequence, the outcomes should be comparable.

Intel Raptor Lake CPU Benchmarks

Overall, the Core i9-12900K outperformed the Raptor Lake CPU by up to 49.3 percent. Even the Ryzen 9 5950X outscored the Raptor Lake component by 6.5 percent, which is quite humiliating for Intel. We’ll have to wait for additional leaked benchmarks to know how Raptor Lake compares up, as the Raptor Lake silicon is still in its early stages.

Raptor Lake is scheduled to land on the same LGA1700 socket as Alder Lake in 2022. According to a new Intel patent on the Digital Linear Voltage Regulator (D-LVR), Raptor Lake might have a 25% reduced power consumption. According to some speculations, the 13th Generation CPUs will have an upgraded hybrid design for higher performance and a larger CPU cache for gaming.
