“The Money Was for the Hero” — Rakesh Bedi Exposes Bollywood’s Payment Hierarchy & Drops a Big Update on Dhurandhar 3

Rakesh Bedi has never been the kind of actor to mince his words — and in a recent candid interview, the veteran delivered two things Bollywood fans weren’t quite expecting: a brutally honest story about being denied payment on set, and a straight answer on whether Dhurandhar 3 is actually happening. Both revelations are making waves, and honestly, they deserve a closer look.

First Things First — What About Dhurandhar 3?

After Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge shattered box office records and left audiences absolutely hooked, one question took over social media almost immediately: is a third part coming?

Rakesh Bedi, who played the memorable Jameel Jamali in both films, addressed the question head-on in a conversation with Zoom. His answer? Don’t hold your breath — but don’t give up entirely either.

Bedi explained that while a direct third instalment isn’t on the cards right now, the Dhurandhar universe is far from over. The franchise, he noted, is open enough that it could continue with a different set of actors at any point. The story, after all, concludes with the spy returning to his home nation — leaving the door open for future stories within the same world, even if this particular chapter is closed.

He also gave credit to the audience for sustaining the franchise’s energy. Since Part 1 was such a runaway hit, viewers came to Part 2 with genuine investment in what happens next — and now that Part 2 is done, that hunger has simply transferred to Part 3. It’s a cycle of anticipation that the filmmakers would be wise to capitalise on, even if there’s no official announcement yet.

Rakesh Bedi’s Payment Story That Reveals a Harsh Industry Truth

The more striking part of Bedi’s interview, however, had nothing to do with Dhurandhar. It had everything to do with how the Hindi film industry treats supporting actors when a star is in the room.

Bedi recalled a specific incident from his past that sums up a quiet but pervasive reality in Bollywood — one that veteran character actors know all too well, but rarely speak about publicly.

He was on set, urgently needed his payment, and noticed the producer had arrived with a packet of cash. He asked for his instalment. The producer’s response? “I don’t have the money right now.” Bedi pressed gently, pointing out that he could clearly see the money in the producer’s hand. The producer’s reply cut to the bone: “This is for the hero.”

That one moment — a packet of cash handed to the lead while a senior, experienced actor was turned away — captures something deeply uncomfortable about how star power distorts the economics of filmmaking. It wasn’t an isolated incident either. Bedi made clear that this kind of hierarchy — where resources flow to the biggest name on the call sheet, regardless of seniority or contribution — is something character actors have navigated for decades.

To his credit, Bedi didn’t express bitterness so much as clarity. He acknowledged that this is an industry norm while firmly stating that treating others as lesser because of their position is simply not right. It’s the kind of measured, dignified pushback that only someone with decades of perspective can deliver.

Why This Matters Beyond the Gossip?

Rakesh Bedi’s story isn’t just an interesting anecdote — it’s a window into the structural inequalities that have long existed in Bollywood’s working culture. Supporting actors, character artists, and veteran performers are often the backbone of a film’s emotional and comedic weight, yet they frequently operate in a system that economically and logistically prioritises star talent above all else.

For fans of Bollywood and Indian cinema, this is a conversation worth having. The next time you’re praising a scene-stealing supporting performance — and Bedi’s Jameel Jamali absolutely qualifies — it’s worth remembering the conditions under which those performances are sometimes delivered.
