Darr went on to become one of 1993’s biggest hits, and Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of the obsessive, unsettling lover Rahul Mehra became one of the most iconic performances of his career — arguably the role that set the stage for his transformation into Bollywood’s biggest star. Interestingly, Roy wasn’t the only actor linked to the part before SRK; Aamir Khan was also considered but stepped away over unmet conditions around a joint narration.
Living With The “Biggest Regret”
Years later, appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show alongside his Aashiqui co-stars Anu Aggarwal and Deepak Tijori, Roy opened up candidly about the missed opportunity, calling it the one decision he still can’t fully shake off. He’s been refreshingly honest about it ever since — acknowledging that while the “what if” lingers, it’s a chapter of his career he has learned to accept and move past.
