If you grew up watching Bollywood in the late 90s, the name Raghu from Vaastav: The Reality (1999) hits different. That raw, street-smart gangster with an arc that broke a million hearts — he’s back. And this time, it’s not a rumour. Sanjay Dutt has officially confirmed it.

What Sanjay Dutt Said at the Khalnayak Returns Launch?

At the Khalnayak Returns launch event, when quizzed about reprising his iconic character, Sanjay Dutt confirmed: “We are working on Vaastav 2.” Short, punchy, and everything fans needed to hear. The actor didn’t just drop a bombshell there — he also nudged director Rajkumar Hirani about another beloved franchise. When asked about a new instalment of the Munna Bhai series, Dutt added, “You’ll have to ask Raju Hirani. Raju, please make Munna Bhai again!”

Two legendary franchise confirms in one event? Sanju baba really came to play.

What We Know About Vaastav 2 So Far

An insider close to the project revealed that director-actor Mahesh Manjrekar has cracked an idea for the sequel that is in sync with the world of the original Vaastav, and has already discussed it with Sanjay Dutt, who is reportedly excited and charged up to play Raghu again.

It will be produced by Subhash Kale, and notably, it is being described as a franchise film — not a direct continuation. Once the script is locked, the team plans to cast a younger actor in a parallel lead role.

Still Early Days — But the Excitement Is Real

The insider confirmed that things are at a very nascent stage, but added that “the conversations for Vaastav 2 are very much on.” Mahesh Manjrekar is currently developing the idea into a full screenplay before any formal casting announcements are made.

Considering that the original Vaastav remains one of the most celebrated crime dramas in Bollywood history — as noted on Wikipedia, it won Sanjay Dutt the Filmfare Award for Best Actor — the anticipation surrounding this sequel is absolutely justified.
