Qualcomm confirms Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 to come with Oryon CPU in coming October

Qualcomm’s CMO stated at MWC 2024 that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with Oryon CPU cores will go on sale in October. Additionally, TSMC’s second-generation 3nm production node is reportedly going to be used to build the flagship SD 8 Gen 4 chipset. For enhanced on-device AI performance, Qualcomm might possibly enhance the NPU on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

This year, a new CPU design will be available on Snapdragon mobile chipsets from Qualcomm, which has been using its Kryo CPU cores for a long time.

An ARM-based desktop chipset for PCs with the Oryon CPU cores, the Snapdragon X Elite, was already revealed by the American chipmaker in October of last year.” Furthermore, mobile chipsets will soon boast the same Oryon CPU. Take a look at the attached video proof.

It is anticipated that Qualcomm will release another Snapdragon 8 Gen series CPU prior to revealing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It is rumored to have one 2.9GHz Cortex-X4 processor, with the Adreno 735 GPU handling graphics-intensive tasks. The model number is SM8635.

It appears like Qualcomm is completely abandoning tiny cores. In addition, the manufacturer of chips is probably going to increase the maximum frequency of its smartphone chipset to 4.0GHz for the first time, which is significantly faster than the 3.3GHz clock speed of the Cortex-X4 core on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Given that Apple hasn’t indicated if it intends to incorporate generative AI capabilities into the iPhone 16, it might provide premium Android phones a competitive edge over the next generation of iPhones.
